EDGERTON, Mo. - Billie Fern (Gaines) Keefhaver, 84 , of Edgerton, passed away, Tuesday, Aug., 28, 2007 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
She was born on June 12, 1923, in Dearborn, to Arch Reed and Willemma (Stafford) Gaines. Billie was a graduate of Camden Point High School and Platt-Gard Business College in St. Joseph.
On Sept. 18, 1948 she was united in marriage to Joe Melven Keefhaver.
After their marriage they lived in Edgerton where they made their home. Her husband Joe passed away on Oct. 16, 2003.
Billie Fern took a great interest in politics. For many years she worked the polls during elections, served as Platte County Republican Committee Woman and was also a candidate for Platte County Public Administrator on the Republican ticket. Billie wrote a weekly column the "Back Porch Philosophy" for the Edgerton Citizen now the Platte County Citizen.
She was a member of the North Platte Elementary Living History and participated in their Readers Theater. Billie was an active member of the Edgerton Christian Church serving as a deacon, secretary and was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. "Ma" was a homemaker and enjoyed oil painting, volunteering, cooking, babysitting her grandchildren, and listening to her children and grandchildren make music.
Billie Fern was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles; an infant brother; an infant sister, Ruth Margaret; and three infant children, Nicholas, Gayle and Dennis.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph "Jody" Keefhaver and wife, Glenna, Louisburg, Kan, and Michael Keefhaver; one daughter, Kathleen Willson and husband, Darrell, all of Edgerton; eight grandchildren, William, Ben, Matt, and Sam Keefhaver, Edgerton, Grace and Anne Keefhaver, Louisburg, Kan. and Brice Willson and wife, Gretchen, Trimble, Mo. and Crystal Willson, Edgerton, Mo.; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at the Edgerton Christian Church. Burial: Ridgely Cemetery, Ridgely, Mo. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Edgerton

Raymond Keefhaver, 95, of King City, MO, formerly of Edgerton, MO passed away, Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at King City Manor. He was born on January 1, 1918 to William Nickolas and Grace (Hellyer) Keefhaver in Edgerton, MO where he grew up and graduated from Edgerton High School. Raymond served his country in the U.S. Army Corps during WWII. Raymond worked for General Motors in Fairfax for 30 years. After his retirement he farmed near King City. He attended the First Christian Church of King City. Raymond was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge both in Edgerton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Martha Lorene (Bryan) Keefhaver in 1976 and Velma (Kemp) Keefhaver; brothers, Robert Keefhaver and Joseph Keefhaver; son, Bryan Keefhaver and grandson, Eric Keefhaver. Raymond is survived by his wife, Minnie Jean Keehaver; son, Charles Keefhaver and wife Connie, Rushville, MO, daughter in law, Gini Keefhaver, Edgerton, MO; step-son, Chuck Hume and wife Carolyn, Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Troy Keefhaver and Bryan Keefhaver and wife Ella; step-grandson, Jason; other relatives and many friends. KING CITY, Mo. -- Velma F. (Kemp) Keefhaver, King City, 82, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Born March 31, 1917, northwest of King City, Mrs. Keefhaver was a graduate of King City High School.
She lived in Kansas City, Kan., and Edgerton, Mo., but spent most of her life in the King City area.
Mrs. Keefhaver was a member of Star Chapel United Methodist Church, Empire Prairie, Mo., and Prairie Flower Community Club, King City.
On March 18, 1978, she married Raymond W. Keefhaver. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Keefhaver was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Evans, in 1957; her parents, Joseph and Nellie F. Kemp; and three brothers, Dale, Virgil and Curtis Kemp.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Marilyn J. Miller, Kansas City; a son, Stanley G. Evans, Lathrop, Mo.; two stepsons, Bryan K., Edgerton, and Charles A., Rushville, Mo.; four brothers, George Kemp, Avenue City, Mo., Wayne Kemp, Wichita, Kan., and Ray and John Kemp, both of King City; two sisters, Ruby Stoker, Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Marthalene Stoker, Lee's Summit, Mo.; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Gibson Funeral Home, King City. Burial: King City Cemetery. Family visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the Island City Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.
