Services Are Today For Retired Mail Carrier, Albert Wright, 80
Albert Wright, 80, well known resident of Salem for many years, died at his home 1001 Bristol Street, at 2:50 a.m. Monday, September 30. He had been in failing health for some time but remained active and interested in community affairs.
He was a retired mail carrier on a Salem Rural Route for 38 years. Prior to becoming a mail carrier he had taught school at Lesterville for several years. He attended school at the Danville school.
Mr. Wright was born September 15, 1888 at Hinesboro, Illinois, the son of Emanuel and Philena Morris Wright. On December 28, 1907, he married Effie Nichols of Little York. He is survived by his wife, four sons, and seven daughters. They are Lowell E., of Salem; Forest of Ulby, Mich.; Clair of Indianapolis, and Albert Jr. of Indianapolis; Mrs. Lucille Roabrig of Tucson, Ariz.; Mrs. Loraine Collins of Downey, Calif.; Mrs. Philena Moffatt, Daytona Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Wilma Wishmire of Indianapolis; Mrs. Edna Smedley of Salem; Miss Maxine Wright, Orlando, Fla.; and Mrs. Hilan Lucas of Salem.
Two children precede him in death.
Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Last December 28 Mr. and Mrs. Wright and family celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in their home at which time they were joined by nine of their eleven children, along with many of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wright was a member of the First Christian Church of Salem, the Red Man's Lodge and the Senior Citizens.
Funeral services are being held at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the Dawalt Chapel with Dr. Maurice Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
