C. Robert Brogan
“Bob” Brogan died peacefully in his sleep in Santa Paula on Wednesday night, October 24.
Bob was born in Emporia, Kansas on September 27, 1939 to Helen and Carl Brogan. He was the third of four children.
At six weeks of age he was train-bound to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he grew up and nurtured his lifelong love of big skies, desert vistas, and spicy New Mexico green chili. He attended New Mexico Military Institute for six years, then the University of New Mexico, where he met Nancy. They married after a brief courtship and promptly settled in Los Angeles, where Bob attended Mortuary College.
While working at Carroll Funeral Home, he and Nancy bought The Santa Paula Flower Shop in 1968. He went on to own and operated two other flower shops, a hardware store, and several video stores. He was a private pilot, and enjoyed flying many trips for Newhall Land and Farming executives.
Bob loved to fish, and “opened” Lake Crowley many a year. He will be remembered by all that knew him for his wonderful quick wit and Irish charm. Bob will be missed!
Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughters P. Kaye “Crickett” Stenshol and Shelley Rounds of Santa Paula; son Rob Brogan of Medford, Oregon; grandchildren Dylan and Stevi Rieder, Ashley and Maegan Wilson, Ace Rounds and Samantha Rieder; sister Sally McLeod of Albuquerque; and brothers Carl of La Grange, GA and Bill of Alamogordo, NM.
Our family thanks our wonderful friends for all their love and many kindnesses during Bob’s lengthy illness.
