Willie Reeves Hardin Bivins wrote:
From a newspaper clipping shared by her sister: "Death of Mrs. O. R. Davis in an automobile accident in Virginia spells a tragic loss to the world of culture. Only close friends really knew the extent of the many talents of this fine woman whose husband formerly was superintendent of public instruction in Orlando as well as principal of old Memorial Junior High School and later Edgewater High. Mrs. Davis' work in sea shells was fairly well known, but not many were aware that she had become one of the nation's foremost conchologists. She had a shell named for her . . . and had twice lectured before the New York Shell Society, one of the highest honors in conchology. Her prominence in the field developed after her husband retired . . . and accepted an East African post with the Paul Smith Construction Company. They traveled extensively . . . and through these travels she increased her rare shell collection. She also taught violin and was a pianist of considerable skill."

They spent one day each week doing the cooking.
