Alma Vivian Gipson, 95 of Mexico, died at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at the King’s Daughters Home in Mexico.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Vivian was born June 30, 1913 in Audrain County, the daughter of J.J. and Nellie (Smith) Pulis. In 1939, she married Jim Henry Weaver in Audrain County. He died in January 1950. She then married Jess Edgar (J.E.) Gipson, Jr. on Dec. 21, 1956 in Molino. He died Dec. 18, 2007.
Mrs. Gipson had worked for Eckenberger’s Grocery Store and Florsheim Shoe Factory. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, she owned the Dairy Pride with her husband in the 1960s and ran Temple Stephens. When Walmart opened, she worked 17 years there until retiring.
Vivian was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Molino, where she taught Sunday school, served as secretary and treasurer and was a member of WMU. She loved gardening, sewing and was one of the best cooks in Audrain County.
Survivors include her five children, Martha Jane (Billy Joe) Adkisson of Centralia, Marjorie Ann (Don) DeVault of Mexico, Michael Lee (Bobbie) Gipson of Denham Spring, La., Helen Joan (Charles) Black of Columbia and Jerry (Patricia) Gipson of the Kansas City area, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five sisters, Hazel (Clifford) Kable of Thompson, Nelda Monk of Thompson, Colleen (Herman) Campbell of Puxico, Lila White of Paris and Carol Bradley of Auxvasse; and two sisters-in-law, Rose Pulis of Hesston, Kan. and Grace Pulis of Moberly.
In addition to her two husbands, Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, Marcy Adkisson; two sisters, Velma Poole and Rosalind Haverstick; and two brothers, James Pulis and Ralph Dale Pulis.
