EARTHLY TASK IS DONE- MRS. LOUISA KRITNER SPENT LONG AND USEFUL LIFE IN LOVING SERVICE FOR OTHERS

Mrs. Louisa Kritner passed away quietly at her home here in Sterling, Ne. early Wednesday morning, Jan. 16,1946, at the age of eighty-six years, nine months and twenty-one days. She had been in failing health for a long time, and in spite of the loving care of her daughters, Zelma and Elsie, who were home with her, and the ministrations of other members of her family, she finally succumbed to the afflictions of age and passed on to that better land. Louisa Kopplien was born March 25, 1859, near Arnswald, Germany, and lived there until 1866, when she came to America with her parents. They located in Wisconsin, but in 1870 migrated farther west and at that time settled in Nebraska. On October 23, 1877 she was united in marriage to Jacob Kritner, and their home was blessed with eight children. Mr. Kritner and one son, George, had preceded Mrs. Kritner in death, but those who survive her are; Edward Kritner, Mrs. Hattie Fritz, of Adams, Arthur of Geneva, Lawrence and Dewey of Lincoln, Zelma and Elsie of Sterling. There are also 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs. Kritner was the oldest child in her family, and the last to pass away, three brothers and two sisters having gone before her. Mrs. Kritner was a charter member of the Hopewell Methodist Church which was built in 1883, and maintained her membership there until she moved to Sterling in 1921, then her membership was transferred to the Sterling Methodist church. Her kind and unselfish spirit, her devotion to her family, and her consideration for others reflected her splendid Christian character, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her loving ways. Funeral services will be held in the Sterling Methodist church at 2;00pm., Saturday, with Rev. W. H. Merrill in charge. Internment will be in Sterling Cemetery. Friends extend to the bereaved ones deep sympathy in there loss.

ANNA R. EDWARD M.
1883 - 1949 1880 - 1951.
The 1920 census shows two children listed for Ed and Anna Kritner. The oldest was Anna and the youngest was Alfred. Alfred was not in the family picture that was taken many years before the census. Also, no one seems to remember an Alfred so I think it was an error in the census.

Arthur was united in marriage to Sophia Katherine Finkner at Sterling on December 19, 1907. To this union, one son, Robert Lawrence, was born. The Kritners moved to Geneva in 1936, living there and at Fairmont for the remainder of their lives. On December 19, 1972, they were privileged to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary, before Sophia's death on February 10, 1973. Mr. Kritner worked as a funeral director in Geneva and Fairmont until he retired in 1952. Arthur received infant baptism in the Hopewell Methodist Church on May 18, 1884 and was confirmed there in 1899. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge 65 in Geneva, and Stacy Encampment 11 in Fairmont. He lived at Heritage of Geneva for the last 10 years of his life until his death on July 25, 1982, at the age of 98 years, four months, and 29 days. In addition to his parents and wife, Sophia, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Edward and Lawrence; two sisters, Hattie (Mrs. Will Fritz) and Elsie Kritner; and a grandson, Robert Kritner Jr. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva on Tuesday, July 29, with the Rev. Donald F. Marsh officiating. Mrs. Judy Ackland accompanied Delwin Meyers, who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord".
