Howard Hazen Fleetwood-Swanstrom1,2,3,4,5
M, #20770, b. 21 January 1912, d. 10 December 1976
Parents
BASIC FACTS
Howard Hazen Fleetwood-Swanstrom was born about 1907.6 He was born on 21 January 1912 in Sandpoint, Bonner Co., Idaho.7 He and Lena Oleta Farrar were married on 10 May 1943 in Sanders Co., Montana.8 He died on 10 December 1976, at age 64, in Renton, King Co., Washington.9,10,11 He died in 1997, at age ~85, in Maple Valley, King Co., Washington.6 Howard Hazen Fleetwood-Swanstrom had reference number 21044. He was enumerated on the census in Bonner County, Idaho (1920 - 1940.) His Social Security Number was 518-20-9816, issued: Idaho, last residence: Renton, King Co., Washington.10 He was a Farmer (1940.) Howard was born to Arthur Herbert Fleetwood and Rosetta "Rose" Hazen. In the 1920 Census, Howard and siblings are living with their biological parents. When Rose died, Howard and his siblings were adopted by Otto Swanstrom and June Fritchie. The note below by Mary Kay Ward says that even though the children were adopted, the boys spent some time in an orphanage. In the 1930 Census, Howard and siblings are shown living with their adoptive parents.
Howard was first married to Thelma Winnafred Lodge. In the 1940 Census, Howard's brother, Cedrick Fleetwood, is living with Howard and Thelma.
Howard divorced Lena and in 1962 he married Shirley June (Norton) Leitz.
There is a grave marker for a Howard Swanstrom in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saint Maries, Benewah Co., Idaho. The marker does not have any dates. To me it looks too old to have been placed in 1976. More work needs to be done here.

I hope you found information for your history project about SWANSONS in the wars and got a good grade! You must be a really good student! I would like more information about your SWANSON and FLEETWOOD family. I also hope you have started now to learn more about the history of your family. When I was a child, I was in an orphanage in Ohio and I think it's very important to learn about our roots!
I just heard from Carl FLEETWOOD of Anchorage, Alaska; his email address is: CFFLEET at aol.com. His grandparents were Arthur FLEETWOOD born 1871 in England and Rosetta (Rose) HAZEN who married in 1907 in Banff or Bampff, Alberta, Canada. I think they had at least 5 children: Leslie, George, Donald, Cedric and Howard. Carl FLEETWOOD's parents were Leslie Valentine and Ina Jane HEIER -FLEETWOOD who lived in Evans and Colville, Washington and had 6 sons and 2 daughters. Carl said his father, Leslie FLEETWOOD had a brother Howard FLEETWOOD who took the name of SWANSTROM after his mother, Rosetta (Rose) HAZEN - FLEETWOOD died and his father, Arthur left the area. Howard and George FLEETWOOD were both raised in an orphanage in Spokane, Washington and Madeline and Muriel FLEETWOOD were raised by the SWANSTOMS. But the SWANSTROMS couldn't take all of the children so they put the boys in an orphanage but took them home on holidays, ect. That is how Howard FLEETWOOD took the SWANSTROM name. Howard SWANSTROM had two sons who live in Idaho. One is a district judge in North Idaho. Howard FLEETWOOD-SWANSTROM was my 2nd cousin 1 time removed so you and I may be related! Howard SWANSTROM's grandmother, Alice WOODARD-HAZEN and my gr-grandmother Octalana WOODARD-CARTER were sisters! Please contact me: Mary K. Ward, 1432 Yeardley Drive, Richmond, Virginia 23225-2906; ph: 804-232-9338. email mksroots at juno.com Thanks!

Ida Bell DeVault1,2,3,4
F, #20775, b. 16 August 1868, d. 10 November 1927
Parents
BASIC FACTS
Ida Bell DeVault was born on 16 August 1868 in Clark Co., Missouri.1,2,4 She and Peter John "Pete" Peterson were married on 26 December 1886 in Warren Co., Iowa.4,5 She died on 10 November 1927, at age 59, in Poplar Bluffs, Butler Co., Missouri.4 She was buried in Oakland Cemetery, Peterson, Clay Co., Iowa.4 Ida Bell DeVault had reference number 21049. She resided in Clay Co., Iowa.3 She was a Housewife, carpet weaver.4 At age 2, Ida's family was living at St Francisville, Des Moines Twp, Clark Co., Missouri. When Ida was about 20 years old she married Peter John "Pete" Peterson. They must have had a hard life losing 3 of their 5 children before they reached adulthood. For much of their married life Pete, Ida and family lived in Peterson, Clay, Iowa. (Peterson, Iowa was not named for this family.) Ida died in Missouri in 1927, the year her first granddaughter was born. From pictures it looks like she was a lady of short stature, her daughter Leona was less than 5' tall. Ida's husband, Pete Peterson, came to the United States with his parents at age 10 from near Copenhagen, Denmark. His granddaughter, Lucille Marilyn "Lou" (Parker) Cassady-Pillow, was 13 when he died. She had fond memories of him. He lived with her family when she was a kid. His farm was in Cane Creek, 8 miles west of Poplar Bluffs on Highway 60. He sold the property in 1933 for $578.00. He originally bought it for $1,300.00, but the depression made the price come down. Pete was a carpenter. He built the family home in Peterson, Iowa, when his daughter Leona was 3 years old.
