Robert McCracken was getting a load of wood -- for some reason one of his gentle work horses kicked him so severly that he was unconscious for quite a while. When he recovered, he was about 30 feet down the hill from where he had started -- he was alone and so badly injured that he did not know how he could get home. He finally managed to get back to the wagon and getting in, just allowed the horses free rein, and they reached home. It was a narrow escape.
