Funeral services for Mrs. Harry Snyder for more than 25 years a resident of Bayard and community, will be held in Denver today, Thursday, after which the body will be brought to Bayard for burial on Friday. Brief graveside services with the Rev. Robert Harms officiating will precede burial. The plummer Funeral Home will be in charge of local arrangements.
Mary Snyder, who passed away in Denver, March 14th, was born Sept 30th, 1874 at Sterling, Nebr. In 1896 she was married to Harry Snyder. They and their family moved to western Nebraska, coming to this commuity about 1918 and making this their home until 1944 when they moved to Denver where they made their home with a son. Mrs Snyder was preceded in death by her husband and four of her sons.
Survivors include five daughters: Mrs. May McCracken of Bridgeport, Mrs. Amy Kroeger of Grand Island, Mrs Nada Brunn of Lincoln, Mrs. Fern Marshall of Independence, Mo., and Mrs Lois Straface of Denver; and one son, Merle Snyder of Denver; also 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
GRAVE STONE
Mary E. Snyder
1874 - 1955
Harry and Mary (Hillman) Snyder is another couple who's family was hard to locate. This might seem strange as they lived in Bayard and for a number of years were well known by my mother and her siblings. After the Snyders moved to Denver, they just seemed to disappear. One of the problems was that all of Harry's and Mary's children were dead before I began my search. I finally located a few of their grandchildren, but the were not very interested in sharing information on their family. I have never located Harry's grave which I presume is somewhere in Denver. One of the small mysteries I have never solved is why, after having lived in Denver for so many years, was Mary's body returned to Bayard for burial. Her obituary was in the Bayard newspaper. I wonder if Rob and Anna Hillman knew she was brought back to Bayard? Maybe it was her wish as she had several children buried in Bayard Cemetery.

Parents
BASIC FACTS
Stella A. Hillman was born on 7 May 1872 in Gage Co., Nebraska.1,2,4 She and William Elbert "Willie" Grubb were married on 7 March 1893 in Beatrice, Gage Co., Nebraska.5,6,7 She died on 2 June 1938, at age 66, in Independence, Jackson Co. Missouri.8 She was buried in Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, Jackson Co., Missouri.9 Stella A. Hillman had reference number 1460. The Grubbs were another family that was hard to track down. I somehow learned that Willie and Stella (Hillman) Grubb had moved to Missouri. I started cold-calling Grubbs in the (Missouri) phone book. On the very first call I reached Judy (Amdahl) Grubb. Her husband, LeRoy Grubb, is a great-grandson of Willie and Stella (Hillman) Grubb. Judy provided much of the information on the family and descendants of Earl Grubb. It was Judy that led me to Nellie (Grubb) Artman.
Most of the information on Willie and Stella (Hillman) Grubb came from their daughter, Nellie (Grubb) Artman. Nellie is a wonderful lady with a fantastic memory for names places and dates. Besides lots of information on the Grubbs, Nellie gave me leads to information on other children of Edwin and Emily (Rogers) Hillman. Nellie provided almost all the information I have on Dale Grubb. Dale was quite a character and seemed to always be getting in and out of trouble. I was never able to locate a living descendant of Dale. Nellie was the one that directed me to Lowell Rodgers. Lowell gave me much of the information on the family and descendants of Pearl (Grubb) Rodgers. She was baptized about 1872 in RLDS reunion at the river (possibly the Little Blue).10

BASIC FACTS
Robert John "Bob" McCracken, Jr., was born on 3 June 1890 in Bayard, Morrill Co., Nebraska.2,3,5,6 He and May Laura Snyder were married on 3 April 1917 in Lincoln, Nebraska.6 He died on 18 September 1951, at age 61, in Bayard, Morrill Co., Nebraska.2,6 He was buried in Bayard Cemetery, Bayard, Morrill Co., Nebraska.2 Robert John "Bob" McCracken, Jr., had reference number 1462. He was a Farmer, he also bought and sold horses and cattle.6 I thought I might tell a little about parents and family of Bob McCracken. The McCrackens might be the reason that Rob and Anna (Diehm) Hillman moved from eastern Nebraska to Bayard.
The story starts with a fellow by the name of Robert J. McCracken, Sr. The father of our Robert J. McCracken, Jr. This Robert J. McCracken, Sr. and his wife, Bridget E. Rodden, moved to Bayard when it was little more than a village, probably some time around 1895*. Robert Sr. and his wife were originally from Sterling, Nebraska. The McCrackens homesteaded a farm just south of Bayard. Mrs. McCracken died shortly after their fifth child was born. That child also died. Sometime after her death Robert Sr. and his four boys, Edward, Robert, Jr. (our Bob McCracken), Frank and William moved back to the area around Sterling. Here Robert, Sr. met and married Miss Nettie Austin. Robert and Nettie had four more children, Charles, Agnes, Pat and James.
Around 1910 Nettie's brothers and sisters began moving to Bayard. In 1916 Robert, Sr. died and in 1917 Nettie moved her kids to Bayard. Robert McCracken, Jr. must have been married by then and he stayed back for a while. The 1920 census for the town of Adams, Gage County, Nebraska shows Robert and May (Snyder) McCracken with their first child, Ellen. Shortly after the 1920 Census was taken Robert and May (Snyder) McCracken, May's parents, Harry and Mary (Hillman) Snyder and Robert and Anna (Diehm) Hillman all moved with their families from eastern Nebraska to Bayard. I'm guessing that the McCrackens, having once lived in Bayard, initiated the migration that brought Harry and Mary (Hillman) Snyder and Rob and Anna (Diehm) Hillman to Bayard.
* My DeVault ancestors arrived in Bayard around 1887.

John Killian Funkner1
M, #1472, b. 23 October 1828
BASIC FACTS
John Killian Funkner was born on 23 October 1828 in Germany.2 He and Katherine Schlund were married about 1850. He and Kathrine Heid were married between 1865 and 1867. He died in Germany. John Killian Funkner had reference number 1474. He resided in Hohefeld, Baden, Germany.2 John Killian Funkner was born Oct. 23, 1828. His first wife, Katherine Schlund, was the mother of the first four of his sons - Killian John, John Michael, Adam, and George Michael. After her death in 1864, John Killian Finker married Katherine Heid who became the mother of his youngest son, Georg. The three older sons, Killian John, John Michael, and Adam, came to the United States in the early 1880's to make their homes. The two younger sons, George Michael and Georg, remained in Germany.
The original goal of this genealogy was the preservation of the records of the three American branches of the family. The Michael Finkner family records were printed in June, 1965. The records of the Killian Finkner and the Adam Finkner families have been acquired gradually during the past three and a half years. When the records of the George Michael Funkner and Georg Funkner families of Germany were received May 19, 1967, they completed the records of the family of JOHN KILLIAN FUNKNER (FINKNER). At this time it was decided to combine the records of the five families into a complete, one-volume "Finkner Family Tree". The Michael Finkner family records have been revised and brought up-to-date for use in this complete record.
The names of all the descendants of John Killian Funkner are listed in this book and much of the genealogical information about each one is included. Every effort was made to acquire complete, accurate information on each descendant and to secure adequate information on the "connected" families. It is regrettable that all this information was not available and that some of the records are incomplete. If the compilers are notified of any errors, the original copy will be corrected. This will insure correct answers to possible queries.
Throughout this book, the German spelling of the family name, Funkner, will be used in connection with the families living in Germany; the English spelling of the name, Finkner, will be used in connection with the families living in America. John Killian Funkner in the German records and John Killian Finkner in the American records refer to the same man.
The above text was taken from "The Finkner Family Tree" by William Hobert Finkner, Meryl Ramsey Finkner and Olan Earl Finkner.

BASIC FACTS
Carrie M. Sivits was born on 2 August 1902 in Nebraska.1,3 She and Clarence R. Turpen were married on 30 October 1921 in North Platte, Lincoln Co., Nebraska.3 She died on 28 February 2005, at age 102, in North Platte, Lincoln Co., Nebraska. Carrie M. Sivits had reference number 1475. In June of 2000, my mother, my wife and I visited Carrie and her daughter Evelyn in North Platte. Carrie was 98 years old at the time, still taking care of her own home and able to recall events of her youth with clarity. Carrie's daughter Evelyn is very interested in the genealogy of her family and supplied me with much of their family history.
In a phone call to Carrie in March of 2000 she told me she remembered visiting Bayard, Nebraska with her mother and her sister Ruth. She said they visited Rob and Anna Hillman and Guy Hillman who was staying at the Hillman farm.

BASIC FACTS
Lester Martin Casper Sivits was born on 11 February 1905 in near North Platte, Lincoln Co., Nebraska.1,3 He and Ethel Blagdon were married on 23 December 1934 in Julesburg, Colorado.3,4 He died on 25 October 2004, at age 99, in North Platte, Lincoln Co., Nebraska. Lester Martin Casper Sivits had reference number 1476. I spoke with Lester in March of 2000. He clearly remembered traveling to Bayard with his mother to attend his grandmother's, Emily Hillman's, funeral. He said that he and his mother stayed at the Rob and Anna Hillman farm while in Bayard. I asked him why they had returned his grandmother to Bayard for burial and he said so she could be buried next to her husband. This was an important clue on the way to tracking down the graves of Edwin and Emily (Rogers) Hillman.
Lester said he was born in a sod house located about eighteen miles north of North Platte. He recalls Guy Hillman coming by for visits.
