Dorothea Duner DeVault, 98, died Thursday at her home.
Mrs. DeVault was born in Waterbury, Conn., to the late Albert Duner and Pauline Stage Duner and was married to the late Aylett French DeVault. She lived most of her life in Connecticut. Mrs. DeVault graduated with honors from Tufts University. She was a school teacher, a devoted wife, a published author, an avid gardener, a loving mother and grandmother.
A private memorial service will be held.
Mrs. DeVault is survived by her son, Albert R. Devault and wife, Bobbie Jean DeVault; her granddaughter, Judy Ann Best; her great-granddaughters, Candice Joy Best and Casey Jean Best; and her great-great-granddaughter, Sydney Ann Cloutier.
Arrangements by Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Aylett and Dorothea were married in the Unitarian Church of Devine Paternity.

Robert L. Kritner was born on October 20, 1911 at Sterling to Arthur M. and Sophia Finkner Kritner. He was baptized in the Hopewell Methodist Church near Sterling. He died on July 19, 1994, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 26 days. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1930, and was captain of the football team his senior year. Following graduation he attended and graduated from the Kansas City Institute of Embalming and served two years as an apprentice at the Splain-Schnell and Griffith Funeral Home in Lincoln. He was licensed by the state of Nebraska as an embalmer and funeral director. In the spring of 1936, he moved to Geneva and established the Kritner Funeral Home in partnership with his father. They also, at that time, furnished ambulance service to the county, a service that continued until 1966. On June 30, 1937, he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Harris of Sterling. They made there home in the newly opened Kritner Funeral Home in Fairmont, where they lived until 1946, before moving to Geneva. To this union were born a son and a daughter. On June 30, 1994, they celebrated their 57th, anniversary. During World War II, he started an air-seal concrete vault manufacturing plant at Fairmont, called Memorial Vault Company. This plant served much of Nebraska and northeast Kansas. He owned and operated the vault plant until 1957. He also provided mortuary services to the Fairmont and Burning Air Bases during world war II. The Kritner Funeral Home served much of Fillmore County and surrounding area. Following his father's retirement in 1952, Sherm Ashby was a partner in the newly formed Kritner-Ashby Funeral Home until 1957. In 1957, the Kritner Funeral Home and the Farmer Funeral Home consolidated to form the Kritner-Farmer funeral Home. Robert retired in 1970. He was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church and served the Geneva Church for several years on the board of trustees. He was a 50-year member of the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association, the Masonic Lodge, also a member of the Shrine, Odd Fellows and served as county chairman of the American Red Cross for several years. He was preceded in death by an infant son and by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn of Geneva; daughter Jeanette (Bob) Franklin of Belmont Ca.; granddaughters, Heather and Cynthia Franklin; a niece, a nephew and several cousins. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva at 2:30 pm Tuesday July 19, 1994, with Rev. Charles Leypoldt officiating. Judy Ackland accompanied Delwin V. Myers who sang " Beautiful River " and "How Great Thou Art ". Casket bearers were Charles Barbur Sr., Vaughn C. Fulton, Charles Grothe Sr., Johann Offner, Dr. David A. Portwood and Joe E. Schelkopf. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery with Farmer and Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangement.
