OBITUARY - Find-A-Grave
Ruthie Mae Fey, 82 years of age, of Adams, NE. passed away at the Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams Tuesday morning, January 22, 2008. She was born on June 3, 1925 in Adams, NE. to Pete and Lena (Podtburg) Rapp and was a graduate of Adams High School in Adams, NE. It was in high school that she met her future husband, George Fey. They were both active in the town band and soon became close friends. She and George Fey were married and farmed north of Adams, and built a house in town for their retirement. She was always a hard working woman. Ruthie would help her father as he ran the Adams Poultry Business; taught rural school for one year after high school graduation; and was a substitute teacher in Adams for four years. She and George owned and operated Fey Florist in Adams for 25 years. Ruthie was probably best known as the "Flower Lady" to many in southeastern Nebraska. While she provided literally thousands of corsages for Homecoming dates, bouquets for Mother's Day, and floral arrangements for funerals, Ruthie's specialty was always weddings. She and George not only created flowers, but were on hand to calm nerves, sew hems, and direct many a little flower girl and ring bearer down the aisle. Ruthie was a member of the Adams Presbyterian Church until it closed, and then took membership with the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. She loved to talk about her past loves of flowers and her travels.
Survivors include her son Robert Fey and wife Shelley of Muncie, Indiana; grandson Jason Fey of Muncie, Indiana; and sister Faye Wusk of Adams, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents Pete and Lena (Podtburg) Rapp; husband George H. Fey (2002); son Michael; and 2 sisters.
