MRS. KRITNER SERVICES HELD AT GENEVA

Sophia Katherine Finkner Kritner was born July 14, 1886 to Adam and Rosina Finkner of Sterling Ne. She departed this life at Geneva Ne. February 10, 1973, at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 27 days. She was baptized and confirmed at the Hopewell Methodist Church near Sterling, Ne. She was united in marriage to Arthur M. Kritner on December 19, 1907, at Sterling Ne. To this union was born one son, Robert L. The family moved to Geneva in 1936. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and was an active member of the Methodist Women's Society and the Rebekah lodge until ill health prevented such activity. On January 1, 1972, she suffered a broken hip and spent several months in the hospital. In September she and Arthur took up residence at The Herritage Home in Geneva. She has been confined to the wheelchair for the past year. On December 19, 1972, Sophia and Arthur observed their 65th wedding anniversary. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and a grandson. She is survived by her husband Arthur and son Robert and wife of Geneva; her granddaughter Jeanette (Mrs. Robert C. Franklin) and two great-granddaughters Heather and Cynthia Franklin, all of Pacifica, Cal.; three sisters, Lottie Finkner of Syracuse, Ne. Tillie (Mrs. Walter Fey) of Adams, Ne., and Julia (Mrs. Edward Eilers) of Sterling ,Ne.; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer-Harris Funeral Home, Geneva, at 2 pm Tuesday February 13, 1973, Rev. John E. Stayton, Methodist pastor, officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Federal Bridgman sang "How Great Though Are" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord", accompanied by Mrs. Marvin Swartz. Pallbearers were John M. Eilers, Kenneth Kritner, Alfred Eilers, William Joekel, George Fey and Delmar Hobbs. Interment was in Geneva Cemetery.
Married at the home of the bride's parents, Sterling, Johnson County, Nebraska by Rev. J. W. Mecklenburg. She was christened in 1886 in Hopewell Methodist Church.7

The 1920 census shows two children listed for Ed and Anna Kritner. The oldest was Anna and the youngest was Alfred. Alfred was not in the family picture that was taken many years before the census. Also, no one seems to remember an Alfred so I think it was an error in the census. She was christened in 1883 in Hopewell Methodist Church by Rev. H. C. Ihne.5
