Laura Alvina Joekel had reference number 983. OBITUARY

Laura Alvina (Joekel) Sallenbach was born near Sterling, Nebraska, on June 9th, 1895, and died near Arlington, Colorado, January 12, 1923, reaching the age of 27 years, seven months and three days. She had the privilege of being reared in a christian home which, partly at least, accounts for the fine christian character into which she blossomed. At the age of 13, under the care of Rev. J. W. Mecklenburg and with the help of her Godly parents in love and prayer she found her way to blessed peace in the Savior. She united with our church and remained an active and faithful member till her early departure.

Laura was a graduate of Peru Normal school in 1918. She taught school in Johnson county for three years and in Falls City public schools for 1 year, May 7, 1920, she was happly united in marriage with Herbert F. Sallenbach. God blessed this happy union with two children. During their short earthly partnership Herbert and Laura lived at Papillion, Nebraska, for 2 years where they were welcome and active members with B. H. Johansen as their pastor. In February, 1922 they moved to Arlington, Colorado, where they lived till her death.

There remain to mourn her early departure her loving husband, her two year old child Ruth Marie, her five months old baby Donald Herbert, her father, mother, one sister, Augusta, and one brother Willie, besides a host of other relatives and friends. One sister, Ella, preceded her in death 11 years ago.

We hold dear in our hearts the memory of this our loved one because her character reminded us of Christ, and because Laura believed in being cheerful. Her nature was singing and her ability and willingness in music won for her a host of friends wherever she went. Her place in her family is vacant but her spirit lives in our hearts and Christ offers to fill that place.

The remains reached Sterling Sunday night and funeral services were held Monday afternoon and interment was in Granite Hill cemetery.
