Phillip DeWald had reference number 4218. The original genealogy given to Dr. Edward Owings Guerrant by Louisa (DeWald) Kitzmiller said that Henry Dewald had a brother, Philip, that accompanied Henry and family to America. It went on to say that Philip had two children, Catherine DeWald and Philip DeWald, and that the family moved to Ohio where Cincinnati now stands.

In 2003 I contacted Betty J. Gosdin of Glen Rose, Texas. She gave me some genealogy information on Philip's two children. The information on daughter Catherine's descendants proved to be incorrect, at least as it relates to Henry's brother Philip. Betty said her Catherine Dewald married John Asbury Saxton. It turns out that the "Catherine DeWald" that married John Asbury Saxton was really Katherine A. "Kate" Dewalt (1827 - 1873). Katherine A. Dewalt was the daughter of George and Christiana (Harter) Dewalt. George Dewalt (1794 - 1850) was the son of Phillip Dewalt and Eva Unknown. (Phillip later married Catherine Merkle/Markley.) Phillip Dewalt (1761 - 1844) was the son of Valentine Johann Dewalt and Magdalena Unknown. Phillip was born at sea while the family traveled from Germany to America. Valentine Johann Dewald (1742 - 1816) and family first settled in Pennsylvania before moving to Ohio near Canton. (One genealogy says that Valentine was born in Doerrebach, Rhineland, Prussia.)

Valentine Johann Dewalt was about the correct age to have been a brother to our Henry Dewald. It may be that Louisa (Dewald) Kitzmiller was confused about the name of Henry's brother and that he was really Valentine Johann Dewalt and arrived in America five or so years before Henry Dewald. This, of course, is all speculation. What Newland DeVault would have called rank speculation.
