SERVICES FOR RAY BIRCH WERE CONDUCTED FROM THE FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH, BURWELL
Funeral services for the late Ray Birch, were conducted from the First Christioan Church, Burwell, Nebraska, Wednesday, February 14th, with Pastor Carroll Gunderson officiating. The selections, "Going Down The Valley" and "How Great Thou Art", were sung by Mrs. Carroll Gunderson; Mrs. Iva Helmkamp organist. Pallbearers were Garland Davenport, Jack Tetschner, Vern Brown, Anson Kinney, Eddie Bartos and Elmer Freeland. Interment was made in Cotton Cemetery, Burwell, Nebraska.

OBITUARY

Ray Birch, in failing health for some time, and seriously ill for the past two weeks, died early Monday morning, February 12, 1968, at Hastings Hospital.
Born February 5, 1881, in Iowa, he later moved to Gage County and Beatrice, Nebraska. On January 23, 1902 he married Laura O. Hillman. In 1903 he moved to the Burwell area, homesteading. He ranched and farmed until his health forced his retirement. Mrs. Birch died in 1951.
In 1955 at Broken Bow, Nebraska, he was united in marriage to Henrietta Wright. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1967.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jesse (Blanch) Fredericks, Beatrice, Mrs. Willard (Violet) Jaster of Riverside, California, and Mrs. William (Marjory) Spencer of Spokane, Washington; one son, Lester Birch, of Lebanon, Missouri; 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two daughters and one son in infancy; one son Raymond, in 1959, and his parents.
Also surviving are three step-daughters, Mrs. Louise Bartos, Mrs. Bertha Freeland, boh of Burwell, and Mrs. May Etta Beat of Lincoln; and a step-son, Anson Kinney.
