Winton "Ray" Powell, 87, of North Platte died Sept. 5, 2002, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
He was born April 16, 1915, near Tyron to Albert and Ethel Jolly Powell.
On Feb. 27, 1940, he married Flora E. Sivits in North Platte.
Mr. Powell farmed, ranched and worked as a fireman-oiler for the Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed being around people and had a talent for story telling. He enjoyed dancing, traveling and going to auctions.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Tyrone) Fries of St. Peters, Mo., and Diane Osbon of North Platte; two sons, Marvin (Phyllis) Powell of North Platte and Delmer (Mary) Powell of Omaha; a sister, Janie (Ed) Steel of North Platte; three brothers, Dewey (Lucille) of North Platte, Dee (Helen) of Arvada, Colo., and Wayne (Rita) of Brighton, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Valee (Richard), Timothy, James (Deb), Anjanette, Rebekah (Rick) Todd (Kyra), David, Tyanne and Stacy; 10 great-grandchildren, Jessica (Israel), Jonathan, Joshua, Andrew, Matthew, Lance, Bree, Shamane, Michaela and Caiden. The family express a special thanks to granddaughter Anjanette Riley and her daughters, Shamane and Michaela who took care of him in his home for the past year and a half.
He was preceded in death by his wife Feb. 20, 1999; his parents; six sisters, Orpha, Martha, May, Elsie, Grace and an infant sister; and a brother, Levi.
A memorial has been established to the Foursquare Church sign fund and to Parkinson's Disease research.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Foursquare Church with Rev. Jerry Skinner officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memoral Garden.
Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
