Good morning everyone,
Gary passed away last night about 10:35pm. It was very quick and he died peacefully at home. A hospice nurse had come in about 5pm and ran us thru the procedures and everyone got a chance to say goodbye and as soon as his minister (whom he liked so well) came and prayed with him, he seemed to relax and passed away. Barb is doing pretty good at the moment. Gary's mother had come from Colorado Springs and his daughter Carole and Jerry and the kids had come up from Houston on Saturday morning and he was able to talk with them and hug the kids, etc. and then went back upstairs to bed and never got up. When we got there about 12:30pm he was still conscious and responsive but went rapidly down hill.
I am going with Barb to the funeral home today to make arrangements so will let you know more about memorial service, etc. as soon as we know something more.

Gary was born July 31, 1944 in Bayard, Nebraska, his mother Marge’s hometown. He had a sister Christy and a brother Craig. His father Bob Campbell was in the military and the family lived in Berlin and Puerto Rico. While in Puerto Rico, Gary graduated from Antilles High School. In recent years his graduating class has gotten together for many fun reunions, the last was held in June in Puerto Rico.
Gary was in the U.S. Navy submarine service from 1962 to 1991. He served aboard the USS Clamagore, USS Thomas Edison, USS Robert E. Lee and commissioned the USS Alabama. He met Barbara French while she was also in the Navy and they married October 22, 1976. Gary retired from the Navy in 1991.
Gary had a son Doug who preceded him in death in 1997. His daughter Carole (Jerry) has two children, Campbell and Connor. They live in Houston, Texas.
Gary played senior softball and baseball until becoming an avid golfer.
After struggling with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) since 1988, Gary finally passed peacefully in the company of family and friends on August 10, 2003. He wished to thank all the caring nurses on Kaiser’s staff and the hospice nurses from Metro Hospice of Denver for easing his path.
Gary was a devoted husband, loving son, caring father and loyal friend. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
