Elmo R. Marshall - 1907-2004
Elmo R. Marshall, 96, St. Joseph, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at a Savannah, Mo., health-care center.
Elmo was born Sept. 20, 1907, in North Platte, Neb. He was a member of the Christian Church.
Elmo served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He had been owner-operator of a laundry in Nebraska. He then came to St. Joseph and managed the laundry at the Hotel Robidoux until it closed. He then moved to Louisiana, where he had various jobs until his retirement in 1973. He moved back to the St. Joseph area in 1980.
He married Fern C. Snyder on Dec. 21, 1930. She passed away in 1996.
He also was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Emma (Bolander) Marshall; and a grandson, Christopher Saverino.
Survivors include a daughter, Patty Hovenga, and her husband, Steve of St. Joseph; a brother, Raymond Marshall, Mount Dora, Fla.; a sister, Thelma Weitkamp, Rush, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Thursday, at Mount Auburn Cemetery, under the direction of the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Evangelist Melvin Hougas officiating. Pallbearers are Steve Hovenga, Jeff Saverino, Shawn Hovenga and Richard Hovenga. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Noyes Home for Children.
