Mrs. Mary Francis died at 2:10 Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. M. Owen, 1295 W. Main Street. She was seventy-three years old. Her death was caused by Pneumonia. Mrs. Francis was taken ill last Friday with what was thought to be the grip. She grew steadily worse and pneumonia developed. Her husband, Nathan Francis, died of pneumonia at the same house on June, 1910.
Mrs. Francis' maiden name was Mary Duncan. She was born in Tennessee, Feb. 24, 1844 and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Duncan. She was only four or five years old when the family moved to Illinois and settled near Greenfield. She and Nathan Francis were married at Girard, Sept. 10, 1865. They moved to Moweaqua and Mr. Francis was engaged in the lumber business there for thirty years. They came to Decatur seven years ago but Mrs. Francis always referred to Moweaqua as home. She was a member of the Baptist Church there and had many friends there and in Decatur.
She is survived by two children, Mrs. Owens of Decatur and J. D. Francis of Girard. She also leaves two brothers, James T. Duncan of Decatur and M. K. Duncan of Moweaqua.
The funeral will be held at 10 O'clock Friday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Owen. The services will be conducted by Rev. T. Harley Marsh, pastor of the First Baptist Church. The body will be placed temporarily in the Mausoleum in Greenwood and later interred in the family plot in North Cemetery in Moweaqua.

Note: Mary was probably older than four or five when the family moved to Illinois as they are shown in Washington County, Tennessee in the 1850 Census.

1844 - 1917 1832 - 1910. Nathan and Mary (Duncan) Francis began construction of their home in 1892. Their home was located at 220 Main Street, Moweaqua, Illinois. In 2012 this home was owned by Tim and Kim Richardson.
