Nathan Francis, one of the best known lumber merchants in this part of the state, died at 10 oclock Thursday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.M. Owen, 1290 W. Main street. His death was caused by pneumonia.
Mr. Francis home was at Moweaqua. With his wife he came to Decatur last November to spend the winter with Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Owen. He was in perfect health up to May and he had been ill only four weeks when he died. On May 10 he went to Moweaqua to do a little work on his lawn there. It was a bright warm day and he probably worked harder than he should and he caught a severe cold that developed into pneumonia.
Mr. Francis was born in New Jersey in 1832. He came to Girard, Ill in 1858 and in 1874 he moved with his family to Moweaqua, where he engaged in the lumber business. He was widely know and had the respect and esteem of all.
He is survived by his wife and two children: J. D. Francis of Girard and Mrs. H. M. Owen of Decatur.
