The Rev. Lee Roy Shipley, 82, 218 Fairhaven Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was a Sullivan County native and had lived in Johnson City for more than 55 years. The Rev. Shipley was a son of the late Jacob C. Shipley and Sarah Elizabeth Geisler Shipley.
He retired from General Mills Inc. after 32 years of service. The Rev. Shipley was a member of American Federation of Grain Millers No. 43.
He was a retired Baptist minister and evangelist, having served several churches in the Holston Association. The Rev. Shipley has served as chaplain for the Haven of Mercy Rescue Mission for more than 20 years.
He was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher.
The Rev. Shipley was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Florence Hylton Shipley; two sons, Lee Roy Shipley Jr. and David Lynn Shipley, both of Johnson City; one sister, Ida Sue Shipley Poe, Johnson City; and two grandchildren, Marquita Sue Hall, Old Hickory, and Marquis Lee Shipley, Nashville.

Ida Sue Shipley Poe, age 94, Johnson City, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 01, 2010 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Poe was a Sullivan County native and a daughter of the late Jacob C. and Sarah Geisler Shipley.
She was a 1935 graduate of Mary Hughes School and was the oldest living alumnus.
Mrs. Poe was also a graduate of Johnson City Business College.
She was retired from Federal Land Bank Association where she was an office assistant and assistant manager for more than forty-two years.
Mrs. Poe was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than sixty years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, James G. Poe, eight brothers, Isaac Faustine Shipley, Claude Raymond Shipley, Roby Lawson Shipley, Robert Lee Shipley, C.E. "Gene" Shipley, Roy Shipley, Perry William Shipley and John Fred Shipley, two sisters, Stella Grace Lawson and Mary Frances Shipley.
Mrs. Poe is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Faye Kinley, Joy Greene, Stacie Hensley, Elsie Shelton, Teresa Proffitt, Rita Snodgrass, Christine Archer and to Johnson City Medical Center Hospice.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, September 2, 2010, at 7:00 P.M. from the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home, with Dr. Angus Shaw, III and the Reverend Louis Imsande officiating. Special music will be provided by Larry Dodd.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 P.M. until the service hour inthe East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside committal service will be held Friday at 12:00 noon in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Pat Wolfe, Kelly Wolfe, Lewis Shipley, Lee Shipley, Dean Crumley and David Wood. Those planning to attend are requested to meet at the funeral home by 11:30 A.M. Friday to proceed to the cemetery.

PINEY FLATS — G.B. Giesler, 94, of Piney Flats, TN, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center (Johnson City, TN).
Mr. Giesler was born on December 9, 1916, in Sullivan County, TN. He was the son of the late Ernest James Giesler and Eddia Vasta Hall Giesler. He lived his entire life in the Piney Flats area, where he worked as a farmer.
Mr. Giesler attended Rocky Springs School. He attended Deer Lick Union Missionary Church.
Mr. Giesler loved to fish, hunt, go to the flea market, and tell stories.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Giesler is preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Giesler Mensch; and several other family members.

PINEY FLATS ? Erma L. Shipley, age 82, of Piney Flats, TN, died Thursday, September 28, 2006, at NHC Healthcare following an extended illness.
She was born May 17, 1924, to the late Ernest James and Etta Hall Geisler. She was a member of Deerlick Union Church.
Mrs. Shipley was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. Shipley Sr.; two sisters, Thelma Martin and Mildred Lawson; and one brother E.J. Geisler.
Survivors include one son, W.H. Shipley Jr. and his wife, Lois, one brother, G.B. Geisler, and one sister, Lucille Sells, all of Piney Flats. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Friday, September 29, 2006, at Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City Chapel with Rev Eddie Smith and Rev. Don Morrell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:45 P.M. Friday prior to the service in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 924 Deer Lick Road, Piney Flats. Graveside service and interment will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 30, 2006, in Sanders Cemetery, Piney Flats. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:20 A.M. PINEY FLATS -- Mildred I. Geisler Lawson, 77, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was the daughter of the late Ernest James and Etta Hall Geisler. Mrs. Geisler was a homemaker and a member of Deer Lick Union Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley G. Lawson; a sister, Thelma G. Martin; and two nieces, Shirley Smith and Brenda Bare.
Survivors include two brothers, E.J. and G.B. Geisler; and two sisters, Lucille Sells and Erma Shipley, all of Piney Flats; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City, with Rev. Don Morrell, Rev. Lenny Smith and Rev Eddie Smith officiating. Mrs. Sells favorite hobbies included baking, cooking, canning, traveling, and visiting with her family, friends, and neighbors. She never missed an opportunity to take care of those around her who were in need.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sells is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Wayne Sells, her sisters, Thelma Martin, Mildred Lawson, and Erma Shipley, and a brother, E.J. Geisler.
Surviving Mrs. Sells are her daughter, Donna Kay Bowers and husband Gene (Piney Flats, TN); two sons, Larry Sells and wife Lena (Piney Flats, TN), Jerry Sells and wife Kathy (Blountville, TN); a brother, G.B. Geisler (Piney Flats, TN); six grandchildren, Tina Greer, Tabitha Morelock, Dawn Smith, Becky Olinger, Natasha Morrell, and Bradley Bowers; seven great grandchildren, Dillon Morrell, Payton Morrell, Kelsey Smith, Kindell Smith, Gracie Olinger, Mattie Greer, and Blaine Greer; several nieces and nephews.

He was born on May 7, 1930, in Sullivan County, Tennessee, to the late Ernest James Geisler, and Etta Hall Geisler. Mr. Geisler was a veteran of the United States Army, and was retired with over 30 years of service from the Sullivan County Highway Department. He was a member of the Deerlick Union Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stacy Deck Geisler; two sisters, Thelma G. Martin and Mildred G. Lawson.
Survivors include two sisters, Lucille Sells and Erma Shipley, one brother, G.B. Geisler, all of Piney Flats, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 Saturday evening, September 16, 2006, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 8 o?clock with Rev. Eddie Smith and Rev. Lenny Smith officiating. The committal service and burial will be held Sunday, September 17, 2006, at 2:30 at Gunnings Cemetery in Blountville, Tennessee.
