Virginia T. Shipley
Virginia Treadway Shipley, 86, of Johnson City, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, March 19, 2007, surrounded by her family.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Ina Nidiffer Treadway.
Ms. Shipley was a homemaker, a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
Ms. Shipley was most proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them and all of her grandchildren. She also volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center in Johnson City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Delmar McConnell; four brothers, Harold Treadway, Guy Treadway, R.L. Treadway and Allen Treadway; and five sisters, Lillian Perry, Alta Treadway, Elizabeth Lizzie Deloach, Faye Norris and Helen Thomas.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 2500 wing of the Johnson City Medical Center.
Survivors include three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Elmer and Betty Shipley, Danny and Danita Shipley, and Lewis Shipley, all of Johnson City; a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Freddie Goldsberry of Watauga; seven grandchildren, Travis Maness, Jennifer Shipley, Rebecca Shipley, Natasha Shipley, Chris Shipley, Jessica Shipley and Alicia Shipley; two great-grandchildren, Shelby Maness and Chelsea Maness; and a sister, Louise Arnold of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service for Ms. Shipley will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Rev. Reece Harris officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from noon until 2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Interment will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens. He retired as a piecework counter from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. in 1973. Mr. Johnson was a former member of Toecane Baptist Church, Bakersville, and had attended Boones Creek Christian Church. He was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Johnson in 1982. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Gray Johnson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be conducted Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at 8 p.m. in the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home. Graveside committal services will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at 11:30 a.m. in the Green-Young Cemetery, Bakersville, N.C. Those planning to attend the committal services are to be at the funeral home by 10 a.m. Saturday to proceed to the cemetery.
