David Alexander Giesler, son of David Giesler and Nancy M. Gross, was a most intelligent and industrious individual. His father died when David was seven years old and in order to suport her family, his mother became a seamstress. David attended King College in Bristol, Sullivan County, Tennessee and Emory and Henry College in Virginia. He then attended the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Baltimore, Maryland from which he graduated in 1876. His practice was primarily in obstetrics. His residency was in Lying In Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After his residency he took a job with the United States Public Health Service and one of his duties was to meet ships as they came into port and examine the crews for communicable diseases. David met his wife Kate while in medical school and married her in 1876. In 1877 he decided to move his family to Texas. He and Kate got off of the Texas and Pacific train at the end of the line in Ft. Worth, Texas, David carring his few month old daughter Annie, who had been prematurely born and weighed only a few pounds, in a cotton lined shoe box. David first settled in Kimball, Bosque County, Texas where his second and third daughters were born, then moved to Kopperl where his first son was born and then to Temple where his youngest child, a son, was born. The family was living in Temple when a depression came and in order to support his family, David quit the practice of medicine and went to work for Wells Fargo Express Co. For a few years he travelled for Wells Fargo, then became an agent in Belton, Texas which was about ten miles from Temple, and where he moved his family to be near his work. Because of his wife's ill health, however, he retired and they moved to Corsicana, Texas where they lived with their oldest daughter Annie and her husband. Both David and Kate died in Corsicana, but are buried in Temple, texas.

David's father died when he fell in Jonesborough, TN when David was only 7 years old, causing him to move back to the Gross farm with his mother.
He was only 16 when the Civil War ended, too young to fight in active duty, it is believed that he was a drummer.
