BASIC FACTS
Rosa Lee Laing was born in April 1891 in Front Royal, Warren Co., Virginia.4 She was born about 1896 in Front Royal, Warren Co., Virginia.1,2 She and Henry Samuel "Harry" Fitz were married on 31 August 1928 in Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., West Virginia.1,5 Rosa Lee Laing had reference number 20878. She was enumerated on the census in Warren County, Virginia (1900); Berkeley County, West Virginia (1910 - 1930.) She was a Looper - hosiery mill (1920.)3 Rosa's father died a couple of years after she was born and his death caused serious problems for the family. In the 1900 Census, Rosa, just nine years old, is shown living with the family of Abraham and Christina (Kibler) Sibert. She is listed as a "bound" person. Living elsewhere are Rosa's mother and Rosa's older brother, Christian D. Laing. In 1907 Rosa's mother married Morris William Belt. In the 1910 Census, Morris, Annie, Christian and Rosa are living together.
Notes regarding Rosa's parents: 1) Rosa's mother maiden name was Sigourney Gertrude Hall. She seems to have gone by Annie, Gertrude and Gracie. 2) An early genealogy shows that William and Annie had a total of five children. 3) Annie applied for a Civil War Pension based on Morris Belt's service in Company D, 17th U.S. Infantry. Strange since Morris was not born until 1876. She and Henry Samuel "Harry" Fitz had children in No Children.1
