MRS. NANCY R.W. CROSS
Mrs. Nancy Ruth Walker Cross, 88, Johnson City, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Pine Oaks Assisted Living Community.
Mrs. Cross was a Locust Mount native and a daughter of the late Robert Andrew Nelson Walker and Nannie Sue Hunt Walker.
She was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, was a member of the church choir and served as president of the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Cross was an accomplished soloist.
She was a 1935 graduate of Milligan Collage, where she played basketball for four years. She attended George Peabody College, Nashville, and received a master's degree in library science from East Tennessee State University.
Mrs. Cross coached basketball and taught English and French at Sulphur Springs High School and served as librarian for 15 years. She later served as library supervisor for the Washington County School System for 11 years, before retiring in 1978.
Mrs. Cross was a member of the American Library Association. Tennessee Library Association, Boone Tree Library Club and Retired Teachers of Washington County. She served as chairman of the Library Section of the East Tennessee Education Association, the Washington County Education and the Washington County Library board of trustees.
Mrs. Cross was a member of the Gamma chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Monday Club of Johnson City and the Business and Professional Women's Club of Jonesborough.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, O.D. Walker and Robert Dean Walker.
Survivors include her husband, Kyle A. Cross, Jonesborough; one son, Dan Cross, Jonesborough; two daughters, Catherine McDaniel, Chattanooga, and Ann Goss, Nashville; eight grandchildren, Alan Cross, Gainesville, Fla., Laura Lutz, Ellicott City, Md., Andrew Cross, Greeneville, S.C., Sarah Cross, Garner, N.C., Elizabeth McDaniel and John McDaniel, both of Chattanooga, and Matthew Goss and Mary Goss, both of Nashville; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mr. and Mrs. Kyle A. Cross of Route 6, Jonesborough, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception Sunday, July 22 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Historic Jonesborough Visitor's Center.
The couple were married July 16, 1940 in a ceremony performed at the home of the bride by Rev. I. G. Crowder.
Mr. Cross is formerly of Piney Flats and is now retired from Holston Defense after 32 years of service.
Mrs. Cross is the former Ruth Walker. She is retired from the Washington County School System where she served as a teacher and library supervisor.
The couple have three children: Dan Cross, Jonesborough; Catherine McDaniel, Chattanooga; Ann Goss, Nashville; and eight grandchildren.
The reception is open to family and friends. The couple request no gifts.

Catherine McDaniel, 66 of Ooltewah, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010, in a local hospital.
Mrs. McDaniel was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class. She attended Tennessee Tech and majored in Home Economics, where she met her husband, Tommy. She retired in 1999 as a teacher at Ooltewah High School.
She was a wonderful wife of 40 years, a caring, loving mother and a compassionate, loving friend. She was active with several charities, especially Volunteers in Medicine. She loved quilting, gardening, and the outdoors.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy McDaniel, Ooltewah; daughter, Elizabeth Anne McDaniel, Harrison; son, John McDaniel, Ooltewah; sister, Ann Goss, Nashville; brother, Dan A. Cross, Jonesborough, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bill Owens officiating.
Interment will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

Tommy Leon McDaniel, 66, of Ooltewah, died on Tuesday, November 30, 2010.
He was the son of the late Allie and Julia Blankenship McDaniel. Tommy graduated from Baylor and Tennessee Tech. He was an environmental engineer with TVA before retiring in 1999.
Tommy was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class. He was involved with several charities, especially Volunteers in Medicine and the Kidney Foundation. Tommy was a member of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Planning Commission and was active in various outdoor activities.
He was a wonderful and loving father, brother and uncle, who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Tommy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Catherine McDaniel.
Survivors include his son, John McDaniel, Chattanooga; daughter, Elizabeth Anne McDaniel, Harrison; brother, Lamar (Jane) McDaniel, Ooltewah; sister, Trudy (Terry) Payne, Ooltewah; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bill Owens officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
