BASIC FACTS
Catherine Crouch was born on 4 November 1822 in Tennessee.2,4,5 She was born on 4 November 1826 in Tennessee.1,6,7 She and James Keebler were married on 6 January 1839 in Tennessee.7 She and Allen Range were married on 21 September 1855 in Washington Co., Tennessee.8 She died on 8 January 1879, at age 56, in Lebanon, Linn Co., Oregon.6,9,10 She was buried in Was first buried in the Lebanon (old) Cemetery and then later removed to the Lebanon I. O. O. F. Cemetery, Lebanon, Linn Co., Oregon (V.)5 Catherine Crouch was also known as Katherine Crouch.10 She had reference number 26469. She was enumerated on the census in Washington County, Tennessee (1850); Macoupin County, Illinois (1860); Linn County, Oregon (1870.) Information on Catherine Crouch and her two husbands and three children has been difficult to come by. The story starts with Allen Range, son of John and Abigale (Garner) Range. We know from the Washington County, Tennessee Marriage Records that Allen married Catherine's sister, Agnes Crouch, on January 30, 1840. They had a daughter born in Tennessee and then migrated to Macoupin County, Illinois where they had a second daughter. Allen, Agnes and their two daughters are shown in the 1850 Census for Macoupin County, Illinois.
In 1850 Catherine's and Agnes' parents, Joseph and Elizabeth (Keefauver) Crouch, were living in Washington County, Tennessee. They are shown there in the 1850 Census with four children. Also in their dwelling, but listed as a separate family is their daughter, Catherine "Cath" (Crouch) Keebler and three children from her marriage to James Keebler. Catherine was not yet a widow, but she soon would be, for in 1849, James had traveled overland to the California gold fields. He died there in 1852.
Agnes (Crouch) Range died in Macoupin County, Illinois, on November 23, 1854. She is buried in the Range Cemetery, Palmyra, Macoupin County, Illinois. Allen soon returned to Washington County, Tennessee, where, on September 21, 1855, he married Agnes' sister, the widow Catherine (Crouch) Keebler. Allen, Catherine and the children from both of their marriages quickly returned to Macoupin County, Illinois.
On December 20, 1860, Catherine's daughter, Mary E. Keebler, married James H. Hale, son of Lewis and Elizabeth (Bragg) Hale. She died less than two years later and is buried in Hermitage Cemetery.
In 1862, Allen, Catherine and her youngest son, Elbert Keebler, left Illinois for Oregon. They eventually settled near Lebanon, Linn County, Oregon. All three are buried in the Lebanon I. O. O. F. Cemetery. By the time Allen left for Oregon, his two daughters by his first marriage had married and started their families. They remained in Illinois.
On September 10, 1858, Catherine's oldest son, Joseph R. Keebler, married Lucinda Melvin, daughter of John and Eliza (Crouch) Melvin. When his mother, brother and step-father left Illinois for Oregon, Joseph and his family remained in Illinois. Then, about 1875, Joseph and his family moved to California. They farmed there for a few years then moved to Linn County, Oregon. Joseph and Lucinda are also buried in the Lebanon I. O. O. F. Cemetery.
As far as I can tell, all the Keeblers that live or lived in and around Lebanon, Linn County, Oregon are descendants of James and Catherine (Crouch) Keebler through their sons Joseph and Elbert.

James Keebler1,2
M, #26193, b. 8 November 1820, d. 1852
Parents
BASIC FACTS
James Keebler was born on 8 November 1820 in Washington Co., Tennessee.3 He and Catherine Crouch were married on 6 January 1839 in Tennessee.3 He died in 1852, at age ~32, in Placerville, El Dorado Co., California (originally called Hangtown.)3 He died in 1852, at age ~32, in Sacramento, Sacramento Co., California.4 James Keebler had reference number 26470. In 1849 James "crossed the plains with ox teams and located in California, where he became connected with a stage line between Sacramento and Placerville, which then was called Hangtown. He drove a stage for some time over this route, his last trip being made in the year 1852, when he drove to the end of the line and some time later was found dead on a mound of hay nearby, cholera having claimed him for its victim."
Source: A sketch of his son, Joseph R. Keebler, published in "Portrait and Biographical Record of the Willamette Valley Oregon," Chapman Publishing Co., Chicago, Ill 1903, page 1037.
Note: There are a lot of genealogies on the Internet that show that James Keebler, son of James and Mary "Polly" (Rector) Keebler, was married to Susannah Garber. I'm quite sure that this is incorrect. That James Keebler must be descended from another Washington County, Tennessee Keebler family, for he moved with his family to Greene County, Tennessee and lived many years after the James Keebler that was the son of James and Mary "Polly" (Rector) Keebler, had died. See the will of James Keebler (1789 - 1859) and the biographies of his grandsons, Joseph R. Keebler and Elbert Keebler for support of this hypothesis.

He was a Farmer (1860 - 1880); capitalist (1900.)3,4,5,8 The following sketch is from: "Portrait and Biographical Record of the Willamette Valley Oregon," Chapman Publishing Co., Chicago, Ill, 1903, page 1037
"JOSEPH R. KEEBLER. Now retired from the active cares of life Joseph R. Keebler makes his home in Lebanon, Linn County, Ore., near which city over a quarter of a century of his life has been passed, his energy, industry and perseverance given to an intelligent cultivation of the soil. He came to Oregon in 1875 and has since resided in this state, becoming a sturdy and trustworthy citizen of the western commonwealth, and in connection with his accumulation of competency he has fulfilled the duties that has come to him as a member of the community in which he made his home.
The Keebler family came originally from the Middle Atlantic states, the grandfather, James, having been born in Virginia, from which state he removed to Tennessee, and died there while engaged in farming. The father of Mr. Keebler, another James, was born in Tennessee, and in 1849 he crossed the plains with ox-teams, and located in California, where he became connected with a stage line between Sacramento and Placerville, which was then called by the significant name of Hangtown. He drove a stage for some time over this route, his last trip being made in the year 1852, when he drove in at the end of the line and some time later was found dead on a mound of hay near, cholera having claimed him for its victim. His wife, formerly Katherine Crouch, a native of east Tennessee, was again married after the death of her first husband, and then removed to Illinois in 1856, from which she crossed to California in 1861. She later made her home in Oregon, where her death occurred. Her second husband, Allen Range, is also deceased.
Of the two sons and one daughter born to his parents, Joseph R. Keebler was the eldest, and was born in east Tennessee, May 14, 1840, where he lived until the age of fourteen years. During these years of childhood he attended the common schools of his native state, gleaning what little knowledge he could under the adverse conditions of those early times. On going to Illinois, he found employment on a farm until 1871, and at that date he crossed the plains to California and located in Yolo County. After four years spent as a farmer in that location Mr. Keebler came north to Oregon, and with the proceeds of his previous years of labor he bought two hundred and fifty acres of land one mile north of Lebanon, Linn County. Later he parted with a portion of this purchase, and at the present owns but one hundred and sixty acres, which he rents. In September, 1902, he removed to Lebanon, and has since made this his home.
The marriage of Mr. Keebler occurred in Illinois, Lucinda Melvin, a native of that state, becoming his wife. Her death occurred in Oregon. Of the children born to Mr. and Mrs. Keebler, John Allen is now deceased; James V. is located upon the home farm; Elbert E. is also in this county; Katie is the wife of S. G, Keefhaver, of Linn County, Ore.; William Henry is deceased; Anna is the wife of D. Hildreth, living in this county; Bell is the wife of Frank Lutz, of Linn County; Myrtle is Mrs. Frank Parrish, of Linn County; Mary Narcissus is deceased; Joseph Benjamin is located in this county; and T. E. is engaged in logging in Washington. In his fraternal relations Mr. Keebler is a master Mason, and also belongs to F. O. R. Politically he is a Democrat and served as road supervisor and school director."

ELBERT KEEBLER, an agriculturalist residing three and a half miles north of Lebanon, is the owner of a tract of three hundred and twenty acres and devotes his attention to farming and stock-raising with excellent success. His birth occurred in Tennessee in 1844, his parents being James and Katherine (Crouch) Keebler, who were likewise natives of that state. They had three children as follows: Joseph, who is living retired at Lebanon, Oregon; Mary, deceased; and Elbert, of this review.
Elbert Keebler started out in life for himself as a youth of seventeen years, for when still very young he lost his father, who had gone to California as a pioneer. In 1862, our subject made the journey across the plains with ox teams and settled in the Grande Ronde valley of Oregon, where he worked for others during a period of five years. He then came to Linn county and there operated a rented farm in association with his step-father for two years, at the end of which time the latter passed away. Remaining on that place, he purchased the property in 1874, and cared for his mother until the time of her demise, in 1878. He still owns that tract. His farm embraces three hundred and twenty acres and two hundred and fifty thereof, are under cultivation. He devotes his attention to the cultivation of grain and hay, principally, and raises stock, having one hundred head of sheep. His is a commodious and attractive residence and his farm is well improved and equipped.
Elbert Keebler has been married twice. He first wedded Miss Margaret Smelser, who was born in Missouri and by whom he had ten children, six of whom survive, as follows: Otis, an agriculturist residing at Lebanon; Georgia, the wife of Lincoln Coney, of Alberta, Canada; Mamie, the wife of B. B. Doughton, a farmer of Lebanon, Oregon; Cleveland, who assists his father in the operation of the home farm; Samuel, at home; and Bernice, the wife of Robert Wallace, an employee in the paper mill at Lebanon, Oregon. Mr. Keebler's first wife was called to her final rest in 1903, and two years later he was again married, his second union being with Miss Pearl Shearer, a native of Kansas and a daughter of Joseph and Amy (White) Shearer. Her father passed away in Missouri, in 1889, and her mother came to Oregon in March, 1883. To Elbert and Pearl (Shearer) Keebler, a daughter, Esther, was born on the 21st of December, 1905.
Elbert Keebler is a stalwart democrat and has always taken an active part in community affairs. He has held school offices and has ever discharged his public duties in a commendable and acceptable manner. Fraternally he is identified with the Masons and is a worthy exemplar of the craft. The period of his residence in this state covers a half century, and in his home community he enjoys an enviable reputation as a leading agriculturist and respected citizen.
