ELLA PHELAN WEEMS, 75, of Germantown, died Sunday at her home after a long illness. Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with burial in Calvary. She was a communicant at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, past president of Madonna Circle, past vice president of Circle Arts, twice leader of Lourdes Circle of the Ave Maria Guild, past vice president of Cenacle Retreat League, an advisor at Birthright Inc. and a retired member of Memphis & Shelby County Medical Auxiliary. Mrs. Weems, the wife of Dr. Jerome J. Weems, also leaves five daughters, Georgia Strain Harkins, Katherine Weems Hughes and Beth Weems Bradley, all of Memphis, Carla Strain Williams of Monticello, Ark., Mary Weems McCallum of Atlanta; four sons, Dr. Thomas Doyle Weems and Dr. Joseph Lell Weems, both of Memphis, Walter Phelan Strain of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dr. Jerome John Weems Jr. of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Marjorie Phelan Burke of Memphis; a brother, Walter Joseph Phelan Jr. of Memphis, and 18 grandchildren. John Heazeltine, 74 years old, died Friday morning at his home in Olathe, Kansas, after an illness of several months.
He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Elizabeth Shipley, Mrs. Lydia Gambol, Ross Heazeltine and Frank Heazeltine. One sister, Mrs. L. W. Meredith, of Mulberry Grove, also survives.
Mr. Haxeltine was a resident of Edgar County for many years and was well known here.
The body will arrive in Paris on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock.
