Shirley Maxine (Keebler) died Jan. 15, 2006.
She was born Aug. 28, 1922 in Lebanon to Edward Lee and Crystal (Nichols) Keebler. (Lane Co.) (sic Linn County)
She grew up in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1940. Following high school, she worked for the Oregon State Unemployment Department in Lebanon and the telephone company in Albany, and then for the federal government at Camp Adair in their purchasing department.
She worked for Evans Plywood in Lebanon, and then moved to Eugene to work for the U.S. National Bank. In 1947, she was the first female hired by Weyerhaeuser when they began construction of the new plywood and pulp mill in Springfield. She handled all the accounts payable and continued working there for nine years.
She married Robert N. "Bob" Hill of Springfield on Nov. 14, 1953. That same year, they went into business in home and commercial construction in the Eugene-Springfield area. She also worked for Rosboro Lumber and Lane Plywood until 1970. She then worked full time in their construction business.
They moved to Waldport in 1978 and continued building until they retired in 1990. (Lincoln Co.)
Her interests included knitting, sewing and quilt making.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; son, Robert Patrick "Pat" Hill in 1986; sisters, Betty Keebler Hemphill and Dolores Keebler Lumb, and brothers Bob, Jack and Don Keebler.
Survivors include sisters, Janet Wills and Beverly Copeland, both of Lebanon, and Arden Larsen of Albany; sister-in-law Fran Keebler of Eugene; 21 nieces and nephews; 23 grandnieces and grandnephews; and 14 great-grandnieces and grandnephews.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 28, at the Waldport Moose Lodge.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Waldport Moose Lodge, in care of DeMoss-Durdan Funeral Home and Crematory, 815 N.W. Buchanan Ave., Corvallis, OR 97330.
