Marlene T. Dye, a former resident of Springfield, passed away in St. Petersburg, Florida on August 31 at the age of 67 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Marlene was born on July 6, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Santa Barbara High School in California in 1966 and received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of South Florida in 1978.
Marlene served five years in the United States Navy Reserve and worked many years in the insurance business. She loved to cheer on her Florida State Seminoles football team and was a life-long dog lover.
Marlene is survived by her brother, Neal Dye of Ozark, Mo. and long time friends, Kristine Siegert of Colorado Springs and Merrille Welling of Warwick, Rhode Island.
Marlene will be laid to rest in Center Point, Iowa next week next to her mother.
She was buried in Sep 2014 at Center Poinit Cemetery, Center Point, Linn Co., IA.

Joseph F. Kun, 54, of 1620 Keith drive NE, a lifelong Cedar Rapids resident, died Monday after a long illness. Born April 23, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, he was married to Phyllis Dye June 15, 1946. He was employed for 29 years as a food processor for the Witwer Co. For the last 1 1/2 years he had done janitorial work for the LeFebure Corp. A veteran of the army in World war II, he was a member of the Hanford American Legion post.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Joseph; a sister, Martha Peck, and two brothers, John and Carl, all of Cedar Rapids.
Services: Brosh chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. by the Very Rev. Canon D. A. Loferski. Burial: Cedar Memorial cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after noon Wednesday.

Lewis Ray "Peck" Abeln ATHENS, IL - Lewis Ray "Peck" Abeln, 84, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Mary JoAnn Abeln, and his children, Brenda Abeln Connelly (husband, Ed) from Florida, Sheree Abeln Meyer of Athens, Diane Abeln Hester (husband, Tom) of Springfield, Dale Abeln (wife, Linda) of Cantrall, and Dean Abeln of Williamsville; and 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Peck was born Feb. 16, 1930, in Carrollton, Ill., the son of John Henry and Maude Elizabeth (Huff) Abeln. He had four sisters, Charlotte Ethell, Pauline Duigiud, Helen Gwillim, and Peggy Hurt; and six brothers, Kenneth Freer, John C. Abeln, Paul R. Abeln, Jim Abeln, Bobby Abeln and Charles E. Dixon. He married Mary JoAnn Beard on November 17, 1950. Peck honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received the United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, and two Over Seas Bars. He was a member of the American Legion, the Masons, and the VFW in Athens, Ill., and served as the Commander of the American Legion for many years. He was a member of the Athens Christian Church. Peck worked for Fiat-Allis for 23 years and later retired with 12 years at the Secretary of State serving as a Security Guard. Peck's favorite pastimes were fishing with his family and spending time with friends. Visitation will be on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Rev. Ken Gennicks will be officiating. Burial will be held at Camp Butler Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. in Springfield, Ill. Memorials may be made to the Athens Christian Church in lieu of flowers.
