In Loving Memory of Lindsay S. Hutchison "Hutch"
July 13, 1920 – September 4, 2011
Lindsay S. Hutchison was born in Spanish Fork, Utah where he attended school and was actively involved in the Boy Scouts. He attended the first national Boy Scout Jamboree in Washington, D.C. in 1937, and was the oldest living Eagle Scout in Kern County until his recent passing. He moved to California where he attended Bakersfield Junior College. Upon graduation, he served with great pride in the U.S. Army in Germany during WWII and met General Patton. While stationed in Belgium, a war orphan came up to the soldiers begging for food. Being the sweet and caring man that we've all known Lindsay to be, he found a home for her before returning to the states. He kept in contact with her and her children for over 60 years.
He was a dedicated employee for 47 years as a tractor parts man for John Deere at Cousins Tractor Company, Davies, and South Kern Machinery. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Lakers and Angels. He never missed a single B.C. Renegade football game and his name is engraved on a plaque on his seat that he held for more than 50 years at Memorial Stadium.
Dad was passionate about exemplifying hard work and integrity and always provided a template of respectability for his children to follow. He was an amazing and caring father and grandfather and would faithfully support his grandchildren in all facets of their lives. He was the most gentle of men with the most loving heart. His example of love and sense of unity are the essence of our family. He was a faithful and loving husband. His greatest love is his wife and dance partner, Mary Ellen. He and his "sweetheart" enjoyed 26 loving years together.
Lindsay's loving and kind spirit continues on in his family and he will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Ellen, and children Claudine, Christine and husband Ramón, Kelly and wife Larraine, Peri Ann and husband Roy; also, grandchildren Alicia, Antonio, Adriana and husband Sean, Alessandra, Sean, Catlin, Cameron, Maddison, and Jackson.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 900 H Street. An additional service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 12 noon, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 316 A Street. Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, September 8th from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and a Rosary from 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Cherished Memories Memorial Chapel, 701 34th Street. Interment will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank Dr. Frank Chang, the Memorial Hospital nursing staff on 5-West, and Mercy Memorial Hospice for all their compassionate and gracious care, for which we are eternally grateful.
