1868 - 1950. WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT

Last Wednesday evening at the home of the bride, Mr. Harry Smith and Miss Louie Wolfe were united in marriage by Elder J. Peelle. The wedding march was played by Miss Effie Smith cousin of the groom and the attendants were the bride's sisters and Mr. John Fil????, intimate friend of the groom. The bride was dressed in cream wool with silk lace and pearl trimmings and boquet roses. The groom wore the conventional black and looked handsome and happy. The supper of three courses was served to the most perfect order by Miss Belle Williams, the rooms were beautifully trimmed with lace and flowers. Flowers were also tastefully arranged on the table. There were about twenty five guests present at the wedding, relatives and close friends of the bride and groom. The presents were handsome and appropriately chosen as they were all of practical utility. Silver tea set, Grandma Houck; coffee urn, Amos Wolfe and wife; handsome cake plate, John Houck; one dozen fine glasses, John and Zella Eliason; set of fine towels, Miss Mattie King; twelve piece chamber set, George and Cora Wolfe, fine table cloth and napkins, Mrs. Samuel Smith; salad bowl, Ethel and Louie Smith; set of dishes, Cora and Howard Smith; handsome basket of flowers, Miss Cora Smith; beautiful boquet flowers, Mrs. Johnson. The happy pair left for Indianapolis on the early train Thursday morning to attend the State Fair and to visit relatives of bride at that place, they will also stop and Greenfield and Knightstown on their return home. Miss Louie is an exemplary young lady. She and her young sister Cora were left without a mother while they were very young, but they took charge of the house work and managed the affairs of the home with such system and economy, raising large flocks of geese, turkeys and chickens and looking after all the caresel a well regulated home in such a commendable manner as to win the admiration and esteem of all who knew them. They have a kind and indulgent father, who did all in his power to make home pleasant and enjoyable. Home will be quie lonesome now to Cora and father in the absence of the older sister Louie to take the lead. We acknowledge with thanks the receipt of a portion of the excellent wedding cake. May their life be one of sunshine and happiness.

Centerville - Ruth Smith Hamilton, 84, 8955 McConaha Road, Centerville, died Friday evening, July 29, at Pinehurst Village in Centerville after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 17, 1909, in Richmond, to Harry J. and Louisa Wolfe Smith and had spent most of her life in the Centerville area, where she and her husband had farmed.
She was a graduate of Centerville High School and Earlham College, Class of 1930. She was a longtime member of the Centerville Christian Church and a member of Centerville Women's Club.
She also served on the board of the Wayne County Cancer Society.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert J. Hamilton, whom she married in 1930; and three sons: Jerry W. Hamilton of Centerville, Neal A. Hamilton of Richmond and Duane B. Hamilton of Royal Center, Ind.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Loren L. Hamilton, in 1961; and a grandson, William J. Hamilton.
Service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at Centerville Christian Church with the Rev. Steve Abernathy and the Rev. Harry Holloway officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Centerville.
Friends may cale 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Mills Funeral Home in Centerville.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Herbert J. Hamilton
CENTEVILLE, Ind. - Former Centerville resident Herbert J. Hamilton, 89, of Royal Center, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Memorial Hospital in Logansport following a lengthly illness.
He was born Oct. 3, 1908 in Fayette County to Claude and Edith Hamilton and had spent most of his life in the Centerville area.
A graduate of Centerville High School, he was a retired farmer and former International Farm Machinery salesman. He was a longtime member of Centerville Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Hamilton of Centerville, Neil Hamilton of Richmond and Duane Hamilton of Royal Center; one sister, Ruth Sheffer of Richmond; aeven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Hamilton, in 1994; a son, Loren, in 1961; a grandson, William J. Hamilton, in 1971; and two brothers, Irvin and Glenn Hamilton.
Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mills Funeral Home in Centerville, with the Rev. Steve Abernathy of Centerville Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

CENTERVILLE, Ind. -- Jerry W. Hamilton, age 75, of Centerville, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 27, 1931, in Richmond to Herbert J. and Ruth Smith Hamilton.
Jerry was a farmer in the Centerville area. He was a member of Central Christian Church, Gideon International and the Wayne County Antique Truck and Tractor Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Martin Hamilton, to whom he was married March 5, 1950; sons, Larry A. Hamilton and wife Susan of Centerville, Thomas W. Hamilton and wife Angela of Richmond, Daniel H. Hamilton and wife Karen of Croton, Ohio; daughter, Nancy Wright and husband Jerry of Simpsonville, S.C.; grandchildren, Kristen Agee, James Hamilton, Sarah Hamilton, Mark Hamilton, Lynn Hamilton, Anne Hamilton and Kelly Wright; brother, Duane Hamilton and wife Sharon of Royal Center, Ind.; sister-in-law, Joanne Hamilton of Rising Sun, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Neil A. Hamilton and Loren Hamilton; and his parents.
Funeral service for Jerry W. Hamilton will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., Centerville, with Daniel H. Hamilton and Mark Irwin officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at the funeral home.
