ALLIANCE-Bonnie Ruth Somers, 85, of Alliance passed away Thursday, March 15 at Alliance Community Hospital. Bonnie had been battling several physical problems for a number of years and is now at rest.
Bonnie Ruth Somers was born Oct. 5, 1926, in Alliance, to Parents Ray and Lela Shively.
She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Charles William Somers; sons Charles Douglas (Joyce) of Mt. Vernon, Ind., Ray Allan (Jean) of Charlton, N. Y.; grandchildren, Eric (Tirzah) Somers, Brian (Julie) Somers, Amy Somers (Adam) Lawson, Rachel Somers (Peter) Bornn, Becky Somers (Eric) Abramson; great-grandchildren Ivy, Sam, Aidan, Andrew, Emily, Abbie, Fred, Sarah and Katie; sister, Shirley Cunningham; sister-in-law, Delta (Shively) Murtz; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Robert Lawson Shively.
She studied pharmacy at Ohio State University for two years and graduated from Mount Union College with a degree in education. She taught fifth grade in the West Branch Local School District at both Knox and Maple Ridge Elementary for 25 years. Bonnie was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Minerva, Alliance DAR, and Great Trails Model A Car Club. Bonnie enjoyed playing bridge with Bill and their friends
Bonnie was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed many years along side her husband making, and selling Shaker boxes, carriers and other miscellaneous traditional Shaker items at Shaker Woods, Yankee Peddler, Bob Evans Farms and many other area craft shows.
Bill and the family would like to thank the many neighbors, friends, a very special niece, members of the St Paul Lutheran Church, Pastor Steven Woyen and especially the staff at Alliance Community Care and Alliance City Hospital for their fine care and many acts of love and kindness.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Sunday, March, 18 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minerva with Pastor Stephen Woyen officiating. Burial will be in North Georgetown Cemetery.
