Harriett Irene Baker, 101, passed away on July 30, 2013 at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin, IN. She was born to Otto A. and Leo M. (Foutch) Trinkle on September 9, 1911, in Campbellsburg, IN. She married Seward A. Baker on June 18, 1933. He died in October of 1969. Her parents preceded her in death as did her two brothers, O. Harriet was a graduate of Tech High School and Butler University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was a substitute teacher in the Indianapolis school system for 15 years before teaching for 23 years at Howe High School. She loved teaching and her students. Her desire was to inspire her students to enjoy learning and succeed in life. As the director of all the theater productions at Howe, she kindled the desire of several of her students to continue their focus in that field. Many also chose a career in teaching because of her influence.
Harriett was very active in the Irvington Dramatic Club, the Irvington Historical Society, and the Benton House Association where she served as president and was a board member for 20 years. She was also president of the Irvington Union of Clubs. She received many awards for her devotion to Irvington, Howe High School, Englewood Christian Church, and Tri Delta Sorority.
