Hiram Francis Groft, 83, a retired farmer, died Tuesday morning at 5:30 o'clock at his home near Bonneauville from a complication of diseases. He was a native of Adams county, a son of the late George and Harriet (Gouker) Groft. The deceased was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, Bonneauville. Surviving are his widow; six sons and daughters: Joseph, Mt. Alto; Mrs. Roy Hannigan and Gerald Groft, both of York; Anna Groft, Utica, New York, and James and John, both at home; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A high requiem mass will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 a. m. in St. Joseph's Catholic church, Bonneauville, by the rector, the Rev. Leo Krichten. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery, Bonneauville.

She was born in Mt. Pleasant Twp., Adams County, daughter of the late Hirom F. and Mary L. Groft.
Her husband, the late Silverio Paterra died in 1971.
She is survived by a son, Richard C. Groft of Gettysburg; two brothers, James and John Groft, both of Gettysburg; a sister, Mrs. Mary Hannigan of Hanover; two granddaughters and two great grandchildren.
The funeral service was celebrated by Rev. Joseph Blascovich of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, S. Beaver St., York. Burial was in Holy Saviour Cemetery, N. York.

JOSEPH GROFT EXPIRES AT 74
Joseph F. Groft, 74, Hanover R. 3, formerly associated with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Department of Health, died Thursday at 3:50 p.m. at Hanover General Hospital about an hour after his admission. He had been under a doctor's care.
Mr. Groft, husband of Mrs. Viola Smith Groft, was associated with the game commission for 18 years, having served in York and Franklin Counties. He had been employed by the health department as an instructor of trades.
At the time of his death, he was a partner with his grandson, Francis D. Groft, Jr. in the operation of the Groft Gun Shop at the Hanover R. 3 address. The younger Groft resided with his grandparents.
Mr. Groft was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He also belonged to Hanover Aerie 1406, Fraternal Order of Eagles; Republican Club of Hanover and was a charter member of the Chambersburg Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. He was a son of the late Hiram and Mary (Resh) Groft. He and Mrs. Groft had been married 54 years.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Francis Groft, Spring Grove R. 3, and Gervase Groft, South Mountain, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters, James and John Groft, both of Gettysburg R.5, Mrs. Mary Hennigan, Baltimore, and Mrs. Ann Paterria, New York City.
Funeral services will be held Monday with prayers at 8:30 a.m. at the Panebaker Funeral home, 311 Broadway, Hanover, followed by a requiem mass at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Rev. Robert C. Cribbin, parish administrator, will be celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. on Sunday and the Rosery will be recited there at 8 p.m. Sunday.

OBITUARY - The Gettysburg Times, Gettysburg, (PA), 28 Jan 1957
Gerald Groft, 57, York, died at York Hospital at 10:45 p.m. Friday after he was striken suddenly ill at the wheel of his automobile, causing it to collide with two other cars in York, according to police.
York County Coroner Lester J. Sell said he would withhold issuance of the death certificate pending further investigation.
Groft was the husband of Anna C. Plonk Groft and was employed by the York Division, Borg-Warner Corporation.
Also surviving are three brothers, Joseph, of Mt. Alto; James and John, Gettysburg; two sisters, Louise Grofton, New York, and Mrs. Mary Hannigan, York.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception and its Holy Name Society.
Funeral services at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Boll Funeral Home, 252 S. George St., York, with a requiem high mass following at 9 o'clock in St. Mary's Church. Burial in Holy Saviour Cemetery.

MRS. CATHERINE FUHRMAN. widow of the late Eli Fuhrman, died in Hanover on last Wednesday from paralysis aged 79 years and 28 days. She had fallen down a stairway in January and broken her left hip but had recovered from the injury. Two weeks ago she was stricken with paralysis. The funeral was on Saturday, interment at Sherman's Church. Her husband died 14 years ago. She leaves four daughters, Mrs. David Leppo of McSherrystown, Mrs. Daniel Wertz, Mrs. Peter Resh of York county, and Miss Alverta Fuhrman of Hanover.
