SPRING GROVE Gerald L. Rebert, Sr., 82, died peacefully at his home in Heidelberg Township on Friday, November 21, 2008. He was the former husband of Helen I. (Hess) Rebert of Spring Grove. The funeral service for Mr. Rebert will be held in thanksgiving for his life at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Harvest Time Temple, 700 Black Rock Road, Hanover, with the Rev. Fred I. Mummert officiating. Viewings will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. Born September 29, 1926, in Hanover, he was a son of the late Lavere M. and Arlene E. (Feeser) Rebert. Gerald was a self-employed farmer and devoted his life to agriculture in the Spring Grove and Thomasville areas. He was involved for over 40 years in the York County, PA State, and National Plowing Contests where he was champion in all levels. During the late 1970's, he attended the World Plowing Contest in Minnesota. He was a lifetime member of the PA Farmer's Association and attended Harvest Time Temple. He was an avid hunter in the local area and, since 1949, enjoyed hunting in Potter County. Mr. Rebert leaves two sons, Dennis E. Rebert of Hanover and Gerald L. Rebert, Jr. of Spring Grove; five daughters, Brenda J. Miller, Vikki A. Kreiser, Susan E. Altland, Sandra J. Messinger, and Geraldine L. Greiman, all of Spring Grove; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Dale Rebert of Thomasville and Robert Rebert of Spring Grove; and three sisters, Estelle Zartman and Shirley Bortner, both of Spring Grove, and Vivian Bortner of Glenville.
