CARTERVILLE -- James John Karavites, 53, of 508 N. Dent, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 1996, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Services will be at 8:30 p.m. today at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville with the Rev. Dwayne Sheumaker officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Karavites to the Shriners Children's Hospital Fund.
Mr. Karavites was a truck driver, working for Super Cartage Company in Chicago. He was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1960-62.
He was born Dec. 9, 1942, in Chicago to John T. and Erna E. Westphal Karavites.
Survivors include four brothers, Donald Karavites of Carterville, George Karavites of Chrystal Lake, Gus Karavites of Bolingbrook and Thomas Karavites of Florida; one sister, Dorothy Karavites of Carterville; several great-nieces and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
