VINCENT W. HEATH, JR.
Vincent W. Heath, Jr., 82, formerly of Iola, and recently of Independence, Mo., passed away July 31, 2000, at Foxwood Springs Living Center, Raymore, Mo.
Mr. Heath was born in Gas to Florila (Burton) and Vincent W. Heath, Sr., on Nov. 6, 1917. He graduated from Mildred High School.
On Sept. 8, 1942, he married Leona I. Hillman in Fort Scott. She preceded him in death in 1995.
On Dec. 19, 1940, Vincent enlisted in the 127th Field Artillery Regiment of the Kansas National Guard. This unit was reorganized into the 195th Field Artillery Regiment, 35th Division, U.S. Army in March 1942. Mr. Heath was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in the European Theatre during World War II.
After the war, he owned and operated a rock and lime hauling service in Iola. For many years, he was the rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in LaHarpe. He also drove a school bus for USD 257 during his retirement.
He was a member and elder the RLDS church, serving in both the Iola Branch and the Hill Cumorah Restoration Branch in Independence, Mo.
He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Springston, Belton, Mo.; a sister, Vivian Lasley, Iola, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lloyd, and a sister, Cynthia.
Friends may call from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at the chapel. Services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, Mo. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery.
