BAST, MARGARET CARROLL, daughter of the late Sen. N. Ray Carroll and Lottie Carroll, wife of George AY. Bast Jr. Survived by son former County Commissioner Michael D. Bast and his wife, Anza Browder Base; three grandchildren: Charles A. Bast II and his wife Lisa, Clint Bast, Rachel Bradshaw and her husband Brice Bradshaw; 5 great-grandchildren: Jared and Braden Bast, Brianna Bast, Griffin and Maggie Bradshaw. Born April 5, 1910 in Bedford, OH. She began her teaching in Delray Beach in the 1930's and taught school in Osceola County for 35 years starting in Holopaw, and teaching in Mary Bryan, Emma Yowell, Ross Jeffries, Thacker Elementary and Central Avenue Schools. She was very active in the County. She was a founding member of the Osceola Classroom Teachers Association, and in 1965 chosen to be the beginning principal for the first Head Start program here. Her awards include Women of the Year in 1943 and 1944, Order of the Eastern Star-Worthy Matron in 1946, Teacher of the year in 1961 and First Lady of the Year in 1970. She was a founding member and past President of the Osceola County Art and Culture Center, founding member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, Osceola Chapter, member of the Silver Spurs Club, member of the First United Methodist Church, and a member of the Osceola County Historical Society who named the museum in her honor. On her 90th birthday the Osceola County Commission issued a proclamation in her honor naming April 5, 2000 Margaret Carroll Bast Day. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 5 to 7 P.M. at Conrad & Thompson Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11 A.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Kissimmee with Reverend Dwight W. Oakes, associate minister at the First United Methodist Church officiating. The Bast family is being cared for by: CONRAD &
