"I was graduated from Adams High School in 1924, worked around
Adams on farms and in a garage for two years then Uncle Harold got
me a job in Omaha in a shipping room in a garment factory, bailing
overalls for J. C. Penny, where I worked up to a cutter. Then when
factory closed and moved to K. C. in'34 came here (Kansas City),
married in '35. In the Air Force '42 - '45 in communications; on
returning worked in pre-production on Railroad radios. At Armours
Packing Plant worked on electric motors then to Sterns, Ladies Coats
and Suits for 22 years, where I retired with I.L.G.W.U. pension. In
spare time serviced TVs and guitar amplifiers.
Marvena's father was a coal miner in Mystic, Iowa. (Her grand-
father, she says, worked in the mine at Cripple Creek at the time
Keith's grandmother was there -- and her grandmother Eliza Cobler
came from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.) When the mines closed
Marvena's father moved to K. C. where he papered houses -- died in
'45. Her mother is with us now . . . Marvena has taken care of sick
people so much of her life, one doctor called her his traveling nurse.
We have a lot with an old trailer on it at John Redman Lake, where we
spend as much time as we can, fishing and taking it easy. It breaks
the monotony of the big city."

"Mother refused to go, so dad leased a farm in 1904, five miles west
of Adams in the Grandview District, where all their children were born
and raised. In the drought and depression of the 1920's* they moved to
Adams (1925). He did carpenter work and painted houses. When my
grandmother Hattie died, mother took care of Litt until he passed away.
The Atkins home was deeded to her where they lived their last years."

Dear Camps --
I received a letter from a classmate at Adams, NE where I grew up - that you had been in Adams hunting info about the Hillmans.
John Hillman was my great-grandfather. My brother has compiled a lot of the family tree but only 5 generations back to Penn. where they also ran a store but he never found what nationality they were or where they came from to Penn.
Our grandparents are buried in Hooker Cemetery but we have never been able to find where John went when he left hooker.
Later My grandfather (his son) Clarence sold the homestead at Hooker & took his 3 younger sons to Kansas Territory. My father (Harry) the oldest was married so he and my mother never went.
My uncles were Alva, Bert & Lester & they settled around Concordia, Jewel & Ionia. Lester's wife (Bessie) still lives at Cawker City & is 92.
My brother inquired of them to find where John was buried or lived and no one knew. Evidently his son Clarence didn't know where he went.
My brother is 86 & bed fast now but he would be happy to hear any information you might have about the family.
He & I called on the people who live on the old homestead & an old lady who had lived years in Hooker & knew John's family. They had a P. Office & store she said John's wife died and he left Nebr. She said the rest of the community considered them Jewish & my brother was determined to find that they were English but he never did. The Mormon files in Salt Lake sent him a record that Hillmans came from Martenique Island & were French so take your pick!!
I would be interested to know what branch you are? Clarence's, or another son of Johns
Sincerely,
Naomi Hillman Wasson
1416 W 7th West Plains, MO 65775
P.S. I don't know where Easton is but I visited Aunt Bessie at Cawker City and Aunt Cora & her son & I met a dau. of Berts & took them to Hooker when they brought Uncle Bert to Nebr. once. My Dad died in 61 & all 3 bros. came to his funeral & some cousins. How he would have loved to have seen them -- I think it had been over 30 years.
They were small of stature and dark complected and handsome men. My dad was larger but had the dark eyes.
N H Wasson
I am the youngest of Harry's family & am 73.
