O.D. Kitzmiller Killed In Action On Guam, July 23
The War Department has notified Mr. and Mrs. Zed L. Kitzmiller of Fordtown that their son, Pfc. Orville D. Kitzmiller, was killed in action on Guam on July 23.
Private Kitzmiller had been in the service since June 23, 1943, and had received his basic training at San Diego, Calif. He went overseas in January this year. A member of the Third Marine Division, he was stationed at Guadalcanal several months before going into action tn the Mariana Islands.

Pfc. Kitzmiller Funeral Rites Set
Funeral services for Pfc. Orvill D. Kitzmiller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Zed Kitzmiller, Fordtown, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Beulah Church with burial in the adjourning cemetery.
The Rev. C. C. Coldiron, former pastor, and the Rev. W. D. Transbarger, pastor, will officiate. Members of Hammond Post No. 3, American Legion, will conduct military rites at the grave.
Pfc. Kitzmiller, a native of Fordtown, was killed on Guam on July 23, 1944. He was a member of the First Battalion, Third Marine Division.
The body will arrive at the Clinchfield Railroad station at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, accompanied by military escort and will be met by an honor guard of DeWitt Byrd Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The body will be taken to the home at 4 p.m. Tuesday from the Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.

Orville D. Kitzmiller
The body of Pfc. Orville D. Kitzmiller son of Mr. and Mrs. Zeb Kitzmiller, Fordtown, who was killed on Guam July 23, 1944, will arrive at the Clinchfield Railroad station at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, accompanied by military escort, and will be met by an honor guard of DeWitt Byrd Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Private Kitzmiller was a member of the First Battalion, Third Marine Division and participated in engagements on New Caledonia and Guadalcanal just prior to his death. He was 25 years old. He entered the service in June, 194?
He was born and reared in Fordtown and engaged in farming there before entering service. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
Surviving are his parents; four sisters, Mrs. William Arnold, Mrs. Leland Rupe, Mrs. James Trusley and Miss Ruth Kitzmiller, all of Fordtown; two brothers, Jerry Kitzmiller , Jonesboro Route 4, and Charles Kitzmiller, Fordtown.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Beulah Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. G. C. Coldiron former pastor and the Rev. W D. Tranbarger, pastor, will officiate. Members of Hammond Post No.? American Legion, will serve as pallbearers and will conduct military rites at the grave.
The body will be removed to the home at 4 p.m. Tuesday from Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.
