MRS. HAZEL C.R. MANKAMYER
Mrs. Hazel Cross Reeves Mankamyer, 77, 2112 Sherwood Drive, died Saturday evening at Appalachian Christian Village after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Mankamyer was a native of Chicago, Ill., and a daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Hester Mottern Cross. She had spent most of her life in Johnson City.
Mrs. Mankamyer was a member of the Harrison Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William H. Reeves, in 1962, and by her second husband, O. L. Mankamyer, in 1984.
Survivors include two sons, Billy B. Reeves, New Hill, N.C., and Douglas H. Reeves, Columbus, Ohio; three sisters: Stella Evans, Akron, Ohio, Verna McKinney, Johnson City, and Gladys Montgomery, Kingsport; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Hartman is in charge.
Note: Hazel's second husband was Rev. Orlin Mankamyer.
Note: Hazel's obituary says she was a native of Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were from East Tennessee, she appears to have been born in Tennessee and I can find no evidence that she ever lived in Chicago.

Mrs. Hazel Cross Reeves Mankamyer
Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Cross Reeves Mankamyer, age 77, 2112 Sherwood Dr. who died Saturday evening will be held at 1 P.M. Tuesday in the Harrison Church of Christ with Mark Fish, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Burial Park. Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the church at 12:45 will be Ernie Strickland, Howard Sell, Dwayne Cross, Kyle Cross, Ray Sprinkle and Glen Laws. Mrs. Sue Barnes and Mrs. Vernie Strickland will be in charge of the music. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Fund in care of V. C. McKinney, 1167 Sunset Dr., Johnson City. The body remains in the chapel where the family will be Monday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. and will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service to lie in state. Hartman Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Ave., is in charge of the arrangements.

1908 1985. William and Hazel lived in the ancestral home of Peter Miller Reeves for many years. In 1965 they sold the home to the Chinouth family. It is on this farm that the Peter Miller Reeves Cemetery is located. After William died, Hazel remarried.

JOHN AKARD SELL
John Akard Sell, 82, 4003 Bristol Highway, died Sunday, May 2, 1993, at North Side Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was a native of Washington County, having lived most of his life in Johnson City.
Mr. Sell taught school for one year in Florida, then owned and operated a meat market in Johnson City. He was then active in chicken and dairy farming and later retired from the beef cattle business.
He was a Sunday School teacher and deacon at Snow Memorial Baptist for many years.
Mr. Sell was a son of the late John Alfred and Bettie Akard Sell. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Reeves Sell; one son, Heyward Sell, Johnson City; two daughters, Susan Wheeler, Gray, and Jane Johnston, Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for John Alard Sell, 82, 4003 Bristol Highway, who died Sunday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the South Chapel of Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The Rev. John Perkins and the Rev. Ira Cunningham will officiate. Burial will follow graveside services at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Monte Vista Burial Park. Pallbearers will be Jeffery Lyons, Steven Lyons, Robert Lyons, Jonathan Lyons, James Akard Wheeler, Daniel Sell, Andrew Sell and Harvey Bawgus. Family and friends will assemble at the grave site at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
