WALTERBORO - Graveside services for Mary Claire Haws Stone, 89, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 this evening at Fred Parker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stone died Tuesday. Born in Johnson City, Tenn., she was a daughter of Samuel and Kathleen Haws. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Stone was a WWII veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy Waves.
Surviving are her sister, Elizabeth Murphy; nieces, Carol Simmons, Kathleen Harwood, Helen McDowell; nephew, Lawrence Hardin.

FAUST, HUGH DULANEY, JR. - age 90, died Tuesday, September 29, 1998. Grew up on Island Home Blvd. Attended First Baptist Church. Graduated from Tappins School, Central High, UT and UT Law. He played varsity football, basketball, baseball and track. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the Scarabbean Honor Society and Lettermans Club. He was involved with the University of Tennessee Athletics for over 30 years, coaching football under General Neyland. He also coached basketball, tennis and scouted football. Beginning in the 40's he worked at Southern Coal and Coke Co. In 1954, he began managing Emory River Land Co. a tract of cut over, burned over timberland in Morgan Co., Tenn., using sound forestry practices in the years that followed, his stewardship of the property made it into one of the finest large tracts of privately held hardwood timberland in the country. Board of directors of Valley Fidelity Bank, 65-79 and Webb School; UT development Council; founding member of UT president's Club and UT Associates Chancellors Associates, 77-89. He received numerous awards in the fields of forestry and conversation including the 1966 Forest Conservation Award by TN Conservation League., 1982 TN Forest Resource Award by the TN Forestry Association and 1958 Forestry Recognition Award by the Kentucky-Tennessee Section Society of American Foresters. Survivors: Wife, Emily Mahan Foust; sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh D. Faust III and Juliet Aletras Faust, Edgar M. Faust and Lynn Frierson Faust; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Faust Foster and Lewis C. Foster, Jr.; grandchildren, Will Faust, Hugh Faust, Ted Faust, Christin Foster, Luke Foster, Caroline Foster, Emily Faust Wheeler. In July 1983 Elsie had chemotherapy treatments for cancer of the lymph glands. She recovered successfully. Elsie had successful cataract surgeries in October and November of 1984. Early in 1984 she was in remission and was re-growing her hair after cancer treatments and chemotherapy. On 6 Sep 1984 she wrote that doctors thought Bill had Parkinson's. He had been falling, and his hands were shaky. Her husband, Bill (William Edward Sell), who had Parkinson's, had spine surgery in October. On 5 Jul 1985 Bill was walking with a walker and able to feed himself.
She was recovering from a successful knee replacement surgery, when she suddenly lost the sight of her left eye about 1 Apr 1992. The diagnosis was "Ischemic Optic Neuropathy." By 1 July she had only about 50% vision in her right eye.

Mrs. Elsie R. Sell
MURFREESBORO -- Mrs. Elsie Reeves Sell, 89, McMinnville, formerly of 609 Sunset Drive, Johnson City, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
Mrs. Sell had lived in Johnson City until moving to McMinnville six months ago to live with her daughter. She was the daughter of the late James and Ola Boyd Reeves.
Mrs. Sell was a homemaker.
She was a member of Snow Memorial Baptist Church, Johnson City, where she was active in the children's department.
Mrs. Sell was preceded in death by her husband, William E. "Bill" Sell in 1987; one son, John R. Sell; and one sister, Mildred King.
Survivors include one son, William G. "Bill" Sell, Kingsport; one daughter, Patty Bradberry, McMinnville; two granddaughters, Tonya McMurray, Kingsport, and Sherry Strickland, Birmingham, Ala.; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Elsie Reeves Sell, a faithful wife of 47 years, loving mother, grandmother and sister went to be with her Lord Wednesday, May 14, 2003. Her homegoing celebration will be 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 16 in Snow Memorial Baptist Church. Dr. Ted Willliams will officiate assisted by Rev. Albert Bentley. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday. The committal service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park, where friends are invited to meet the family for this service. Serving as pallbearers will be family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sell was preceded in death by her husband, William E. "Bill" Sell, in 1987, a son, John R. Sell, in 1990 and her sister, Mildred King. She is survived by one son, William G. "Bill" Sell, Kingsport; one daughter, Patty Bradberry and her husband, Jerry Bradberry, McMinnville; one daughter-in-law, Earlene Sell Scott, Kingsport; two granddaughters, Tonya McMurray, Kingsport, and Sherry Strickland, Birmingham, Alabama; three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sell was a member of Snow Memorial Baptist Church.
He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Reeves Sell; two sons, William G. and John R. Sell, both of Kingsport; one daughter, Mrs. Patty Bradbury, McMinnville; one brother, Akard Sell, Johnson City; two sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Cox, Pompano Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Mary Emma Hale, Johnson City; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for William E. “Bill” Sell, 75, 609 Sunset Drive, who died Thursday, June 25, 1987, will be held 8 p.m. Saturday in the Woodall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Albert Bentley and the Rev. B.M. Canup officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Monte Vista Burial Park. Pallbearers, who are requested to meet in the cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday will be Stanley __nd, Stanley Denny, George Boy, Bill Smith, Charles Gillespie and George Holley. William Lawrence Hardin was born in Washington, D.C., on 7 Dec. 1915. He married Helen Harrison Haws, daughter of Samuel N. Haws, on 8 Mar. 1942 in Walterboro, S.C.
Hardin served in the European Theatre during World War II and was stationed in Iceland, Ireland, England, France, and Germany. He served in the 118th Infantry Regiment, reaching the rank of major, and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and two bronze service stars.
As the ranking officer in some of the camps in which he was stationed, his duties included training, courts martial, postal censorship, and interviewing foreigners who wished to marry soldiers under his command. Several of these activities are referenced in the collection. His letters also discuss the deaths of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Adolf Hitler.
Both of Hardin’s brothers also served in the armed forces. One brother, Edward K. Hardin (b. 1912), was also stationed in European Theatre as a member of the Army Air Force. Brother Lyles Glenn Hardin served in Pacific Theatre, was captured by Japanese forces ca. Dec. 1943 and held in POW camp in the Philippines, and died in transit to Japan on 7 Sept. 1944.
Prior to entering military service, William Lawrence Hardin worked in the forestry industry. After the war, he went into business with his father-in-law, Samuel N. Haws, and they formed the Haws-Hardin Lumber Company.
