Leander A Jarvis is also shown in a separate 1910 Census for Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina with his children. The obituary below confirms that Leander and Delphia are indeed the parents of Cleveland David Jarvis.

OBITUARY - Delphia Isabell (Dacons) Jarvis (mother of Cleveland David Jarvis); The Mount Airy News; Mount Airy, North Carolina; Thursday, March 24, 1910; Page 7 (Find-A-Grave)

Wilkes Patriot, 17th.
Mrs. Jarvis, wife of Mr. L. A. Jarvis, died at her home in North Wilkesboro, early Tuesday morning, after about nine days illness with pneumonia. Up until the last her condition, while serious was not thought to be dangerous, barring the fact, of course pneumonia is always treacherous.
Mrs. Jarvis' maiden name was Miss Delphia Isabella Dacons. She was born at New Hope in Iredell county, March 22, 1855, nearly 55 years ago. On October 8, 1876, she was united in marriage to Mr. Jarvis and to this union were born ten children, seven of whom survive. The surviving children are Mrs. L. N. Hickerson, of Reidsville, Misses Florence, Tois and Helen, and Messers. Cleve D. and Chester, and Master George.
At an early age, Mrs. Jarvis professed faith in Christ and allied herself with the Baptist church, holding her membership first at Grassy Knob and later at North Wilkesboro. She was in every way a noble hearted Christian woman, whose exemplary life was an inspiration to those with whom she came in contact.
At the end, she expressed her preparedness to pass, and left to the stricken family nothing but soliciting hope and comfort.
The funeral was conducted this morning at the home, by Rev. C. M. Rock, after which the body was laid to rest at the Baptist cemetery, in North Wilkesboro.
(Mrs. Jarvis lived in this town a year or more and made many friends among our people during her stay here. Editor The News.)

DaughterInfant Prather (b. 24 October 1912, d. 25 October 1912)

BASIC FACTS

Cora N. Quincy was born on 29 May 1878 in Rockingham Co., North Carolina.3 She was born on 29 May 1878 in Warrenton, North Carolina.4 She and Jesse Franklin Prather were married on 12 October 1900 in Mount Airy, Surry Co., North Carolina.5
Cora N. Quincy was also known as Cora N. Quincey.4 She had reference number 738. She was enumerated on the census in Warren County, North Carolina (1880); Surry County, North Carolina (1900.) The parents of Cora N. (Quincy) Prather are based on the following analysis.

1880 Census for Six Pound, Warren County, North Carolina
Quincy, William A., head, age 70, born Virginia
-- George R., son, age 36, born North Carolina
-- Mary T., wife, age 64, born North Carolina
-- William H., son, age 27, born North Carolina
-- Margaret A., daughter-in-law, age 34, born North Carolina
-- Cora N., granddaughter, age 2, born North Carolina

The head of this family is William Adair Quincy. His wife is Mary Thomas Fleming. This information appears to come from "Descendants of Edmund Quincy, 1602 - 1637," compiled by H. Hobart Holly, 1977. For some unknown reason, wife Mary appears out of the normal family order and this makes the order of the rest of the family members somewhat suspect. Several genealogies appear to have used this census record as the basis for showing that Margaret Ann Parkinson was the wife of William Hobart Quincy. This is mildly suspect and Margaret is seven years older than William. Other genealogies have shown that the eldest son, George Robert Josiah Quincy was Margaret's husband. I think this is correct. One additional piece of evidence comes from the following. In the 1900 Census for Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina, Cora Quincy is shown living with slightly younger, Eva Quincy. I have assumed that Cora and Eva were sisters. Eva Quincy later married Walter Scott. Eva's death certificate states that her parents were George Robert Josiah Quincy and Margaret Ann Perkinson. Several genealogies show that George and Margaret were married on 29 Oct 1877, just seven months before Cora was born. Until further information comes to light, I am showing George and Margaret as Cora's parents.

Elizabeth Juan "Lizzie" Reeves was born on 13 May 1844 in "Wheatland Farm", Johnson City, Washington Co., Tennessee.7,8 She and D.D Ephraim Emerson Wiley were married on 3 October 1870 in Washington Co., Tennessee.9,10 She died in 1921, at age ~77, in Emory, Virginia.7,11 She died on 21 February 1921, at age 76, in Farmville, Prince Edward Co., Virginia.12,9 She was buried in Henry and Emory Cemetery, Emory, Washington Co., Tennessee.13,14
Elizabeth Juan "Lizzie" Reeves had reference number 741. She was enumerated on the census in Washington County, Tennessee (1850 - 1870); Washington County, Virginia (1880.) From "A Walk of Faith" by Chaplain Ken Verran, 1980

Elizabeth graduated in 1865 from the Woman's College of the Moravians at Salem (now Winston Salem), North Carolina, the year that brought the Civil War to an end. Following graduation she became a teacher, first in the public schools of Morristown, Tennessee and later at Martha Washington College, in Abingdon, Virginia. In 1870 she married the Reverend Dr. Ephraim E. Wiley, an outstanding minister and an educator, who served for 27 years as the President of Emory and Henry College at Emory, Virginia. He died in 1893.

In the fall of 1893 Elizabeth moved to Wise, Virginia and was staying at a "boarding home" there. A little girl was brought to the boarding home, as neither parent wanted her. She realized that a home for children was desperately needed. That little girl was the first of over 3,000 children that would eventually live at the home she started. The home was first called the Methodist Orphanage in Greenville, Tennessee and she became known as the "Mother of the Home." It is now known as the Holston United Methodist Home for Children.

W. R. Reeves was born June 20, 1850, on the farm, where he has since resided when permanently located. He received an academical education, and attended school at Emory and Henry College, Virginia, one term; was thrown upon his own resources when of age, and has always followed farming. He owns a fine farm of upward of 200 acres, where he resides. He was married in 1881 to Miss Mary, a daughter of John A. and Ellen (Teeter) Murphy, natives of Pennsylvania and Washington County, Va., respectively. They were of Scotch-Irish and German descent. Her father was a prominent and successful physican. To Mr. and Mrs. Reeves two children have been born: Edward Murphy (dead) and Mary Ellen. Mr. and Mrs. Reeves are members of the Methodist Episcopal and Lutheran Churches, respectively, and Mr. Reeves is a Democrat in politics. He has served as recording steward and steward of his class, and has also served as Sunday-school superintendent, and in various ways has taken quite an active part in church work. He was the youngest of eight children of William P. and Mary (DeVault) Reeves, natives of Washington County, Tenn. He was a carpenter by trade, and was one of the best house carpenters of his day. He built the hotel at Limestone Springs, S. C. a very fine building, composed of 110 rooms. He was a very active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in which he was recording steward about forty years. Mrs. Reeves was a member of the same church. Mr. Reeves died August 29, 1885, aged about eighty-two years. Mrs. Reeves is still living, and makes her home with her son, our subject. Mr. W. P. Reeves was a son of Edward and Nancy (Miller) Reeves, natives of North Carolina, and Washington County, Tenn., respectively. He came to Tennessee when about twnety-five years old, where he married. He was drowned in Wolf Creek, Ky., when about forty-eight years old. Mrs. Mary Reeves was a daughter of Valentine and Susanna (Range) DeVault. Mr. William Reeves began life for himself a poor man, and accumulated considerable property by his industry and good management.

Note: William Rollin Reeves and his family lived in the Wheatland house. There is a photo of the house on page 155 of "History of Washington County, Tennessee, 1988." Sometime after he died the house was sold to John Bowman Clark and his wife, Flora Belle (Haire) Clark. After they died the house was owned and occupied by their son, Clarence Haire Clark. During those years it was often referred to as the "Clark House." Clarence died in 1996 and the house was later caught on fire and was pretty much burned to the ground.

Tennessee Insurance Company Wants Body of Mrs. Kinzer Exhumed.
KNOXVILLE Tenn., Feb. 5, - Developments since the sudden death of Mrs. Dr. Michael B. Kinzer in this city last Thursday morning resulted yesterday in the request by an insurance company to Coroner Hackney to exhume the body for purposes of post-mortem examination. Dr. Kinzer was secretly married in this city January 6 and on the following day both his wife and he took out $5,000 insurance on their lives jointly in favor of each other. They were only in moderate circumstances. The insurance was followed by the bride's tragic death, and burial upon the same afternoon of her death, which caused much comment. At the time of his wife's death Dr. Kinzer stated he had given his wife morphine by mistake, thinking it quinine. Physicians who were summoned stated there were evidences of strychnine poisoning and not morphine.

WALTER DAVID DeVAULT
MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
Walter David DeVault was born to Martin Van Buren DeVault and his wife Annis Roller on May 26th, 1874 in Washington County, Tennessee. He received his early education at Boones Creek Grammar School and other schools in Washington County. Mr. DeVault was graduated from Carson Newman College with his B.A. Degree in 1896. In 1898 he also received his B.A. Degree from Brown University at Providence. Later, after teaching school for about four years in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, he entered the law college at Harvard and received his LL.B. Degree from that institution in 1906. Mr. DeVault entered upon the practice of law with the firm of Matthews, Thompson & Spring at Boston, Massachusetts after his graduation from Harvard Law School. He was associated with this firm for one year. He left there to come to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1907 to become associated with the law firm of Webb, Baker & McClung. After some few years with this law firm he practiced law alone until 1927 at which time he formed a partnership with Charles E. Dawson who had previously been Assistant Attorney General. Mr. DeVault and Mr. Dawson practiced together under the firm name of DeVault & Dawson until the year 1936, shortly after Mr. Dawson became Clerk & Master of the Chancery Court at Knoxville, Tennessee. In 1939 he formed a new partnership with Robert D. Johnston of Knoxville, who had been associated with him for some three years previously. In 1940 this firm was enlarged to include Nelson Venable and the firm of DeVault, Johnston & Venable continued until Mr. DeVault's death on December 26, 1952. During the year 1952 Guy W. Shanks was made a member of this firm but the firm name remained the same.
Mr. DeVault married Eleanor Osborne on the 6th day of June, 1928 and to this union was born one son, Walter David DeVault, Jr., on the 23rd of May, 1930. This widow and son, who is at present a medical student at Columbia University, New York City, survive him.

Mr. DeVault was a man of highest integrity, honesty and honor and was a person of great energy, industry and ability. Although in failing health for the last seven or eight years of his life, nevertheless he continued almost daily to come to his law offices in the Bank of Knoxville Building, and devote a portion of the day to his practice. He was a lawyer of the highest professional ethics, most able in his profession as an advocate, a learned scholar who often became quite interested in the fine points of the law and was as well a loyal citizen, a good neighbor and a devout Christian.
