Mill, South Carolina, Mark and Laura Ratcliffe, Seminole, Florida. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Jim Gibbs, Jonesborough; and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Maden, Jonesborough, Barbara Carson, Telford, and Janey Diehl, Jonesborough. Also surviving are grandchildren and their spouses, Joshua Maden and Melissa Smith, Jakob Maden, Erik Maden, Benjamin and Jacqueline Maden, Jeremy Maden, Brandy Kon, Cheri Kon, Ginnie Maden, Kaci Maden, Jessica Maden, Aaron Robinson, Sarah Robinson and Martha Robinson; great grandchildren are Shayleigh Maden, Griffin Maden, Lucas Metros, Ashley Smith and Caleb Smith.

JONESBORO -- John A. Garst, 89, Route 2, Jonesboro, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday at a hospital here.
He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Quinn Garst, Jonesboro; three sons, Daniel, Clifton and Fred Garst, all of Jonesboro; two step-sons, John and Thomas E. Mitchell, both of Jonesboro; one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Payne, Jonesboro; two step-daughters, Mrs. Addie Bayless, Jonesboro, and Mrs. Alma Peace, Memphis; one brother, Robert H. Garst, Edgar, Mont.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Bacon, Johnson City, and Mrs. Mattie Hilbert, Jonesboro; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Rev. Niles Hilbert officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
The body will remain at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home, Jonesboro, and will be taken to the church one hour before services.

Mrs. Myrtle Garst Payne, 84, Rt. 5, Jonesborough, died Sunday morning at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was a native of Washington County and a daughter of the late John A. and Mattie Keefauver Garst.
Mrs. Payne was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren and of the Pleasant Valley Home Demonstration Club.
Survivors include three sons, R. Bruce Payne, Wilson, Va., Herbert Tagg and Clyde Lee Payne, both of Jonesborough; three brothers, Dan, Clifford, and Fred Garst, all of Jonesborough; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Dillow-Taylor is in charge.

Funeral services for Myrtle Garst Payne, age 84, of Rt. 5, Jonesborough, who died Sunday will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Brown Lowe Vines officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Payne, Vernon Payne, Jeffrey Payne, Bobby Garst, John Garst, Ronnie Garst, Gordy McNeil, and Larry Garst. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home, Jonesborough, is in charge of the arrangements.
