OBITUARY - Eliza (Wortz) Hoke (mother of Lucinda Mary (Hoke) Overdeer)
Mrs. Eliza Hoke, widow of the late Jacob Hoke, died on Monday afternoon at the home of her son, J Clayton Hoke, on W High Street, from dropsy and the infirmities of age. The maiden name of the deceased was Eliza Wortz, and she was born near Fairfield, where the last surviving brother, George Wortz, is now living. Mrs. Hoke's age was 88 years 4 months and 13 days. Since the death of her husband, four years ago, Mrs. Hoke has been making her home with her youngest son, J. C. Hoke, from whose residence the funeral will be held this morning at 9:00, with services in the Lutheran church at Fairfield at 10:30, conducted by Rev. M Coover, of this place, and Rev. Mr. Riter of Fairfield. Four grandsons will act as bearers and interment will be made in the cemetery at that place.
Eight children survive the deceased, together with 30 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. The children are William Hoke, of Elk Creek, Neb., Mrs. Lucindia Overdeer, of Wilmington, Del., Mrs. Margaret McCleaf, of Fairfield; George Hoke and Mrs. Solomon Taylor, of Brysonia; Mrs. Jacob Smith and Jacob Hoke, of Cumberland township; and J Clayton Hoke, of this place.

Nonagenarian Dies
Mrs. Lucinda (Hoke) Overdeer, 93, widow of Peter Overdeer and a native of Adams county, died at her home in Wilmington, Delaware, this morning, of infirmities.
Mrs. Overdeer was born near Fairfield, a daughter of the late Jacob and Eliza (Wertz) Hoke, but had resided in Wilmington for more than fifty years. Mr. Overdeer died a number of years ago.

Former Residents of County Celebrate Event In Wilmington
A Wilmington, Delaware, newspaper recently published the pictures of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Overdeer, of that city and formerly residents of near Gettysburg, on the event of their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary. They were married during the Civil War. Mrs. Overdeer, who lived not far from here, saw part of the Battle of Gettysburg. Mr. Overdeer served in the Union Army. Mr. Overdeer is eighty five years old and Mrs. Overdeer, eighty. Both are engoying the best of health. Last Saturday they were the guests of honor at a dinner given by Mrs. Harry Overdeer(1), in Wilmington, to which all the children and grandchildren were invited.

AGED COUPLE WERE MARRIED IN 1863
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Overdeer Reach Fifty-ninth Anniversary Today
Today is a red letter day in the life of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Overdeer, of 1705 West street, for it marks the fifty-ninth anniversary of their wedding day, it also marks the birthday anniversary of one of their sons, Peter H. Overdeer, of 1707 West street.
While last year the event was a gala affair, it has been decided by the family this year to observe the event informally. The children will call to pay their respects to the aged couple, but there will be no set observation.
Mr. Overdeer is 80 years old while Mrs. Overdeer is 81. Both are in excellent health and enjoy life.
Mr. and Mrs. Overdeer were married during the Civil War. Mrs. Overdeer lived six miles from Gettysburg and saw part of the battle, while her husband served in the Union Army. They have lived in Wilmington for 41 years. Mrs. Overdeer attends Hanover Church, while her husband is a member of the Lutheran Church.
The children of Mr. and Mrs. Overdeer are: Frank Overdeer, Mrs. Joseph H. Bartlett, Peter Henry Overdeer, Willis Overdeer, Mrs. William A. Hiller and Abner Overdeer. All are married, and there are the following grandchildren: Ralph Pennington of Chester; Abner Overdeer, Donald Overdeer, Ruth Overdeer, Margaret Overdeer, Anna Overdeer, Norman Hiller.
The Overdeer family, especially the boys, have been very clannish, and the block in which most of them live has been called in jest the "Overdeer Block." At 1701 West street, live Frank Overdeer and family; at 1703 West street live Willis Overdeer and family; at 1705 West street, formerly occupied by Abner Overdeer, live the aged father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Overdeer; while at 1707 West street live Peter Henry Overdeer and family. Abner Overdeer and family live just around the corner at 218 West Nineteenth street and Mrs. Joseph H. Bartlett lives at 309 West Nineteenth street. Mrs. William A. Hiller, however, lives at 229 North Franklin street.
