Margaret J. Brooks had reference number 10052. She was enumerated on the census in Washington County, Tennessee (1880, 1910, 1920.) In Newland DeVault's report he says that Margaret was listed in her husband's will as "Margaret A. J. Kitzmiller." I have looked at the handwritten will and I believe that Newland misinterpreted her name. Margaret's name was first written as "Margaret Kitzmiller. Then it appears that someone wrote in a "J" above the separation between her first and last name and place a caret "^" below the "J." I think Newland interpreted the caret as an "A."

Prior to her marriage to George, Margaret was married to Harvey Gray, son of James Gray and Mary "Polly" Bright. Harvey died in a prisoner of war camp during the Civil War.

Dear Myra:

Was so glad to get your letter -- But sorry to know you were sick -- hope you are much better by now & that you will soon be well again. I'm not feeling very well -- have nuralgia so much.

Everything is looking so pretty & green & the fruit trees in bloom. Hope to write you a letter soon. Wishing you a Happy Easter.

LETTER FROM MINNIE J. KITZMILLER TO MYRA GAINES (REEVES) HARDIN(1), 26 OCT 1927

Rt. 10, Jonesboro Tenn.
Oct 26, 1927

Dearest Myra:
I just heard this evening that your Father(2) had passed away. And I feel that I can fully sympathize with your deep sorrow, the loss of a dear & loving Father. But your loss is his eternal gain. He has only gone on to be with loved ones gone before. Where sickness, sorrow, pain & death are felt & feared no more.
I know how sad your harts are to night, having gone through with the same sorrow.
Oh how sad it was for me to give up such a dear loving Mother(3), one who had stood by me in every sorrow, kissed my hair & wiped away the tears in all the long days of my sickness. And she told me she would not mind going had it not been for leaving me, as I had no health.
Uncle Jim was such a good man all ways so lively, cheerful & kind. I recall some nice little remembrances that he sent me at Christmas when I was so poorly when you all would be sending me gifts. One time a pretty picture & another a nice handkerchief. I have them yet. I've not been feeling as well as I was just been so nervous & not strength much for anything. We had Dr. Ralph Miller come out a few weeks ago & extract some teeth for me. I did not feel strong enough to go to town to have it done. He seemed to be so nice and kind. Sallie has not been well all summer but seems lots better now & I am so glad. Bettie(4) and Dick(5) are about like usual.
Amy graduate at the State College & is teaching at the Fordtown Junior High, she gets a good salary. Hope each of you are feeling well. Kiss the dear little babies for me. I know they are sweet. Guess the baby boy is growing right along. We are having ideal Fall weather here just now. Myra dear, please forgive me for not writing you sooner. I've thought of you so often & that I would write but just kept putting it off. But I want you all ways to know that I think of you & love you, if I do no write often as I should like to. You have all ways been so sweet to me, such a true & loyal friend and cousin.
Dick says tell you to bring your husband & baby & come in to see us. Bettie & Sallie send love & sympathy.
Please write me whenever you feel like writing, will be so glad to hear from you.
Must close as it's getting late & I'm tired.
May God bless & comfort you, is the wish of your cousin.
With tenderest love
Minnie
