BASIC FACTS

Mary Elizabeth Lawson was born on 18 September 1867 in New Orleans, Louisiana.8 She was born on 18 September 1867 in Tennessee.8 She was born on 18 September 1868 in New Orleans, Louisiana.1 She and David Hughes Yoakley were married on 28 October 1885 in Hickman, Fulton Co., Kentucky.1,9 She died on 14 November 1955, at age 88, in Kingsport, Sullivan Co., Tennessee.10,8 She was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport, Sullivan Co., Tennessee.11
Mary Elizabeth Lawson was also known as Mary Loraine Lawson.12,13 She had reference number 28358. She was enumerated on the census in Fulton County, Kentucky (1880); Sullivan County, Tennessee (1900 - 1920); Hillsborough County, Florida (1930.) In the package of Yoakley material that I received from William R. Yoakley, Jr., there was an article on Greenwood, the beautiful southern plantation built in 1830 by William Ruffin Barrow. (Greenwood is located in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana.) Typed on the front page of the article was information that implied that Mary (Lawson) Yoakley was a granddaughter of William Ruffin Barrow and stated that she was born at Greenwood. I believe this information to be, at least partially, incorrect. Genealogical information available on the Internet does not show any of William Barrow's daughters marrying a Lawson. Also, I learned through census/marriage records that Mary (Lawson) Yoakley's parents were William A. Lawson (born in Tennessee) and Melissa Summers (born in Missouri). Also, that Melissa Summers' parents were William Summers (born in England) and a Margaret (Unknown) (born in Ohio). Mary Elizabeth (Layson) Yoakley was born in Louisiana, however, the family was living in Terrebonne Parish which is nowhere near West Feliciana Parish.
