A memorial scholarship was established in his name to be awarded to a graduating Knox Co student who is interested in working in public schools as a school psychologist.
He died after a brief illness and a long career dealing with special education issues.

Shirley Alice Yoakley
GATE CITY, Jan. 19 -- Shirley Alice Yoakley, 12, died in an Oak Ridge hospital Tuesday night following an illness of two months.
She was a member of the seventh grade of Shoemaker Elementary School, and of the Baptist Church in Gate City.
Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Yoakley, Gate City; three sisters, Mrs. Robert F. Bond, Pound, Va., Mrs. Earl Mann, Gate City, and Mrs. Charles Steel, Oak Ridge; six brothers, Major David Yoakley, Chanute Field, Ill., Charles Yoakley, Fresno, Cal., Eugene Yoakley, U. S. Air Force in England, Ronald, Richard and Buddy Yoakley, Gate City. She is also survived by six nieces and nephews.
The body was brought to the McConnell Funeral Home in Gate City Wednesday.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
