News from Our Boys . . .
Armed Forces
James W. Groseclose, son of Mrs. Joe Groseclose of this city, has just received his wings, and become a lieutenant-instructor of aviation. He has recently been ome on leave and is now at Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he, and ten other flying cadets, were sent upon graduation from Craig Field, Florida.
Lieutenant Groseclose attended the University of Kentucky, where he had some military training. After graduation he worked in Kingsport, taking three months flying course in Bristol during this time. He enlisted in the air corps last January, and was sent to Montgomery, Ala. for his basic training. From there he was sent to Selma, Ala. And finally to Craig Field, Fla., for final training and gunnery practice.
“The work is much harder than any college work,” Lieutenant Groseclose said, “but I thoroughly enjoy it and am very keen on the Air Force. I think if I had my pick I would have chosen to be sent to Fort Wayne.”
His mother went down to see him while he was in Florida and comments as follows: “James has managed to still keep single,” she said, “but I am rather surprised, for you never saw such a rush of marriages as there were down there when the men received their wings. The churches were overflowing and there were not enough ministers to go round. I guess there is safety in number,” she added.
