Otto C. Bernat, New Florence Lumberman Dies
Otto Christian Bernat, who has owned and operated the New Florence Lumber Co. for the past 13 years, died at the Jonesburg Nursing Home Wednesday, Jan. 25. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from Baker Funeral Home in New Florence with Rev. Norman Arbo in charge. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
He was married to the former Miss Irma Schnarre of Jonesburg on March 10, 1935.
He is survived by his wife, Irma; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bernat; three children, Otto Louis Bernat of New Florence, Arthur Bernat of Hermann and Juanita of the home; three brothers, Ernest of St. Louis, John Jr. and Henry of St. Charles; three sisters, Mrs. Clark Johnson and Mrs. Margaret Van Beek of New Florence, and Mrs. Mary Brandenburg of Montgomery City.
Mr. Bernat graduated from the Jonesburg High School and attended Central Wesleyan College at Warrenton. He taught at the Walnut Grove School for six years. He was in the garage business at New Florence.
